I really really want to invite people I work with to the wedding and unfortunately because my mom was really strict about how many people we could invite they got B-listed. And of course we had to wait to the last minute to hear back from a lot of people and now our RSVP date has passed, but as of yesterday we have enough space for them to come. So now I still want to invite them, but will is be really rude to give them invitations with an RSVP date that has passed?
Also, I don't have any of their mailing addresses so I would have to bring in the invites to work with me and hand them out.
Oh, and in case this matters, I'm planning on inviting everyone in my department (it's about 16).
What do I do, should I invite them or not? And if I do invite them should I include the RSVP? Should I include a note about why they're invited late? Should I just verbally explain? Ugh, I feel really crappy about this, but I still really want them to come!

Re: Question about inviting people from work
i guess its up to you...personally i wouldnt.... usually when making a b list you send the a's out really early so that the b list is not suspect. I guess it depends...you cant send it without the rsvp...that would be weird....but I guess if you have a close relationship with them all then you can just tell them to truth....
I would just feel guilty unless they knew my situation.....but there are plenty of people that i didnt invite that asked me for the church info so they could come to the ceremony....

I tried to avoid this problem by sending my invites out in October. People had 2 months to RSVP and about 30 people still waited until the last minute!

Re: Question about inviting people from work
I was thinking about doing the same thing. i would hand them out at work and say, I would be honored to have you at my wedding and leave it at that. i dont think you need to explain, because then you get into this whole discussion and you might start feeling awkward.
i would go aheaed and invite them. people understand that you have to limit the guest list and that initially you cannot invite everyone you would like to.

Re: Question about inviting people from work
To be honest, FH and i just had this exact situation happen to us. His coworker who he grew u with, brought him his invite to work, with less than one month to the wedding, and the rsvp date already passed. We were a bit surprised and confused, but said, hey thats the kind of guy he is. By the way, Our names were not on the invitations, it was a blank envelope. We knew we were invited because we hadbeen invited to the engagement party. Honestly we thought about it and knew we were on the B list- but since we r planning our own wedding i guess we undeerstood. At least its something for us to laugh about in the future.
My point is, whatever you wanna do will be fine. I dont think you should include that RSVP in the invite, but maybe print a business card with your mothers phone number on it and have it say please RSVP to: and the phone number. THen they dont feel left out. You can even put an RSVP date on there of 2 weeks from now. To get the addresses, contact your HR person in your office, exlain the situation in private, he/she has all the addresses if they r doing paychecks, then i would send the invites out IMMEDIATELY. You can print their names and addresses on the envelopes off your own computer. They may never know there ever was a B list.
Good luck!!

Re: Question about inviting people from work
I think nowadays a lot of people understand that its hard to invite EVERYONE and that unfortunately we have to sometimes choose family (who we may not have seen in ages) over friends/'coworkers we see everyday.
I have already told a few co-workers that i would LOVE to invite them but due to the cost of the wedding and the growing guestlist I would have to wait until I received a few no's from my family.
People really do understand especially if you are upfront and honest. I've even had people at work offer to PAY for their own plate! Nice gesture but I could never accept.

Re: Question about inviting people from work
I had to be careful about inviting staff at work, and we work together so it's a little easier because it is one place we have to invite from. But it almost did get out of hand. I did hand out 3 single persons invites late since I had to be careful how many people we were going to invite.

Re: Question about inviting people from work
were doing our a list rsvp earlier sothat when we send out the B list it still can seem like a regular invite...if that makes sense?

Re: Question about inviting people from work
i was talking to my dad about this because my sister had some last minute invites too. so with mine, my invites are seal and send, so the RSVP is a tear off. if i have to, which i don't think i will, i will just tear it off and make my own little RSVP for them. i don't think i'll have to because my minimum is low for that exact reason. i don't want to invite a 'b' list or in my case, the b list would be random people.

Re: Question about inviting people from work
Jobs can be funny, my thought process is that anything can happen between now and then, I don't want to send an invite and then not end up working there by time of wedding. I'm not inviting coworkers, and FH is only inviting his friends from work that he's close with and has hung out with outside of work. If we really ran into a crunch, I may extend to my coworkers, because they would probably come. It's not that I don't want to invite them, it's just that it's a tricky situation of what ifs.

Id hand it to them and not include rsvp. Make it a very friendly invite. Nothing wrong wth that. I handed all my engagement party invites out by hand for work. Just tell them to let you know. Alittle informal, but u work with them, they know you. They wont care.

Re: Question about inviting people from work
I am inviting a few co-workers that I am close with, and FH is doing the same thing. If I needed to fill up seats after the RSVP date because some people that I invited can't attend, then I will invite more people from work. People at work understand that you can't invite EVERYONE. I work in a busy ER with ALOT of people! I don't think anyone will take offense to being invited, especially if they don't see the RSVP date. Do what YOU feel is right.
