Question about inviting w/guest...

So I have a ways to go before I have to tackle this head on but my mom and I were at brunch today and the guest list came up. She was wondering about a group of women that she works with that she has lunch with every single day (about 5 or 6 of them). She wants to invite them, but she thinks it would be too much with 5-6 of them plus 1 per woman. I suggested that she invite them as a group (of course they'd get their own invite, just no guest)... no DH's or SO's and they'll still have a great time because they all know each other.... is that totally tacky.... we were unsure about what to do in this situation.
TIA for your help!

ETA: The guest list is overflowing and keeping the number low is most likely going to be impossible.... I have a huge family and so does FH....

If they're married, they really should be invited with their spouse, and those that are single, should be invited with guest.

Don't assume that they'll have fun all together b/c if one doesn't come, or two don't, the group will be smaller and you want to be sure the women will be comfortable throughout the day.

took the words right out of my mouth! you are right, you have a ways to go---and this is dangerous for your guest list! cause many many things change from now until the invites are mailed--and your guest list will only GROW over the next year and a half or so.

i would consider these women on a B or C list. cause in reality--IMHO i think it would be rude to just invite them without their husbands, just cause you are trying to keep the guest list tighter. no one really likes to attend such an event such as a wedding, alone without their hubby! (i mean imagine if it was YOU--and you were invited w/o your FH/DH...i'm sure you wouldn't be too happy about it)

remember--you have so much time and your guest list just will keep getting bigger and bigger. steer clear of 'verbal invites' cause that can cause awkwardness later! when FH and i started--a year and half ago--we guaranteed 100, and barely could think of 75 ppl to invite. our guest list is at about 150 now. now that may not seem huge to some ppl--but keep in mind that our list DOUBLED in that time!

just keep the lunch ladies on the back burner--and tell you mom to try and keep the wedding talk to a minimum with them !

If they are married I agree with the above post that they should be invited with their spouse. But i think that if they are all single you can invite them without guest to start and once RSVPs start coming in you could always mention to them they are welcome to bring a guest if it turns out like only 2 of the group will be coming.
