Question about Italian-American bands

Question about Italian-American bands

I heard Opera 3000 was a great dance band. When I did a search on here, everyone kept referring to them as an Italian-American band. As half of an Irish-Jewish couple, I have no idea what that means! Obviously I don't care what their cultural background is--I'm just wondering if that means they play specifically Italian wedding music? On their website they do mention lots of Italian songs, but I'm assuming they also play the 'American' wedding standards, etc.

Anyone know?

Re: Question about Italian-American bands

We booked Opera 3000. We checked them out because we wanted an Italian-American band. The leader is Italian and is amazing at the Italian music. However, we were blown away by their American music. We would have loved them regardless of the Italian, which is what we wanted, a band that could do Italian without sacrificing the American. I'm not surprised that they were recommended to you as a good dance band. I couldn't believe that they played freestyle music at their showcase! They also played wedding favorites like songs by Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra (the guy who sung those is an awesome impersonator) and current songs that you would hear on KTU (great female lead vocal). We never saw them at a wedding but loved the showcase enough to book them. They just seemed very versatile. I'd definitely check them out - but ask them to play more American music at the showcase since you don't need the Italian music! I think they are very popular in NJ for weddings, Italian & not.

Thanks! My friend saw them at a wedding and raved about them, that's where I got the rec. from.

We are having Opera 3000 for our wedding. They are wonderful. My best friend used them at her wedding on April 2nd. They were amazing. Everyone had a wonderful time.

We are using them too! Their american music is fantastic -- I guess they are always categorized under Italian-American bands because its such a niche in the band market. If you can, go to one of their showcases in NJ -- I think they have one every month

Re: Question about Italian-American bands

I can't go to a showcase, because I live in California! Planning cross-country is so hard. Finding the band is the most frustrating thing so far. I had three that I've seen and loved, but they're all booked! So now I have to get people to send demo tapes, and most bands won't do that. And I'm not sure how accurate those demos are, anyway.

That's why it's so helpful to hear what the LIW girls think!
