I just read a recipe that said to add an egg to the mozzarella and ricotta........... IS this necessary, I never did before?

Re: question about making baked ziti
I only do it in lasagna - not baked ziti - that same question came up in LIMom's tread on baked ziti.

Re: question about making baked ziti
No, I never added egg.
Just mix cooked ziti, gravy, ricotta, some cubed mozzerella in a pan. Spoon some gravy over the top. Sprinkle some shredded mozz over the top.
Good luck!!

Re: question about making baked ziti
I always add a beaten egg to my baked ziti... otherwise it all falls apart when you try to scoop it out.

Re: question about making baked ziti
tammy - it is up to you but I wouldn't consider the egg a requirement. It makes the ricotta - more binding - if that is the right word. Less mushy. I never use it but some people do. No harm either way.

Re: question about making baked ziti
I usually scramble the egg and then add 1/2 of it.
