Question about paying photographer

Question about paying photographer

One of the photographers I have seen (and the one that I like the most) requires all but $400 dollars a week before the wedding. This means that I give them pretty much all the money I am paying them before a picture (or video) is even shot.
I saw another photog. today that has the same payment plan. Is this a regular practice in the photography industry, or is it asking way too much? PLEASE give me your experiences/opinions because my parents think its crazy to give them so much money befoe the wedding, but its a photog. that many girls on here have used and raved about and I really like them a lot. The only thing holding me back from booking them is this issue of money!

We left Patken a deposit of $500 for photo/video. We have to pay them 2/3's anytime before the wedding date and 1/3 when we pick up the proofs.

We're doing photo and video from the same place here's an idea of what ours is doing for a payment plan...

We put down a 25% deposit
About 50% the day of the wedding
Balance of photos upon receiving previews
Balance of video upon receiving completed video
$0

We are give our photographer all the $$ except for about 350 or 400. That is how it is stated on the contract. I would rather hold more back, but I don't think I can do that.

We paid our photographers IN FULL before the wedding. Scary, I know.

That's what we did. They really wanted to be paid in full before, but I held out a little and payed it when I picked up my proofs.

DITTO!

I would feel funny paying everything upfront,but is the photographer reputable? Check them out on BBB before you make your decision.

Our photographer requires a 20% deposit...then day of wedding we have to give 60% leaving 20% when we pick up

I left a $1000 done payment for photo and video.
Then two weeks before the wedding, a large percentage is due.

Then when you get the proffs we have to pay around $800 for the rest.

I think all the photographers are pretty much the same way.
