ok so we have exactly 1 year and 2 months until the wedding. I have booked the Church and the reception hall. Already made deposit and first payment on reception hall.
When booking the other vendors...how soon do you have to start making payments? I want to book everything and be prepared but FH doesn't get his big raise for a month or 2 and I'm pretty much tied up w/ paying the mortgage. While I know we can afford this wedding I don't want to stretch ourselves too thin on $$ just yet.
Any advice or insight???

Re: question about payment of vendors?
Most vendors require a deposit just to book with them. My photog required $1,000 retainer upon signing the contract and my florist required 20% up front. My dress was 50% up front. So, just take your time booking vendors if money is a little tight. Book the ones that are most likely to book up quickly and are more 'one of a kind' like a photographer and a band. You can probably hold off a few months for the dress, the florist, etc.

Re: question about payment of vendors?
When you book vendors you have to leave a deposit down. They usually want 10%. If you cant put money down yet just shop around and make sure what vendors you want and when you have the money put the payment down.

Re: question about payment of vendors?
also talk to any vendors you are interested in having....some are willing to take small monthly payments instead of one lump deposit.....some you don't have to put that much down for either....as said...try the dj and photog first...everything else you can find a few along the way that can probably give you what you want....

Re: question about payment of vendors?
most places take a deposit and then you make payments.
honestly i wouldnt pay most vendors in full right away. We paid our DJ but we know they arent going anywhere. just be carfule who you book and pay in full off the bat you never know what could happen. We got crap frpm FHs dad when we told him we paid them in full. There are horror stories out there about places closing up and taking peoples money. not to scare anyone but in my opinion i wouldnt pay everyone that far in advace in full
