hey ladies i have a question, i didn't order my gown from phyllis---but i'm thinking i might want her to do the alterations for me. (she charges less than my bridal shop does) my girls bought their BM dresses from her, i can bring my gown to her for alterations right?
now my dress hasn't come in yet from my bridal shop....when it comes in, and i pay for it--would i have to just keep it at my house until i'm ready for fittings in like late dec. early jan?? or would she take it until the fittings are started -- and keep it at her shop?
just looking for info from past brides who might have used her just for alterations ?

Re: Question about Phyllis and Alterations
I didn't use her, but BKtoLi and hmpena did.
She will do alterations even if you did not purchase your gown from her.
As far as 'storage' - I would recm'd you storing it at home until it's ready for alterations.

You can definitely bring your gown to her. My sisters didn't order their bm dresses from her but she did their alterations. I suggest you hold on to your gown until your first fitting.

Re: Question about Phyllis and Alterations
I bought my dress from David's Bridal and I held it in my closet until about May/June '06 at which point, I took it to Phyllis to start my alterations and from that point on, she held my dress for me at her store until the day before my wedding when I picked it up.

Phyllis would still do alterations for you. I would say store it at home when it comes in unless the bridal shop can hold it for a little longer and then you can just say your relative offered to do alterations for you or something.

Good question MJ. I have another question to add to your thread as I am planning on doing the same thing.
How much, on average do alterations with Phyllis cost?

Re: Question about Phyllis and Alterations
Great info. So, it can be as low as $100 but it's capped at $175 - I can live with that.
I imagine $100 was more than likely for a hem and bustle......
