Does anyone know how messy it gets when you have wood floors refinished? My mom had hers done a few years ago and she said dust got everywhere in the house- even the linen closet upstairs and she put plastic over the door!
We are having our floors done on Monday and I was just wondering, other than moving furniture and tearing up the rug what else I should do to prepare......
Thanks so much!

Re: Question about refinishing wood floors
Get out of the house if you can, the smell is highly caustic and toxic!

Re: Question about refinishing wood floors
Ask them to tape up all the rooms they will be doing so that the dust stays in that room - open all those windows to air out.
I had mine done in the winter so it was so sold, but we didn't have a mess because they taped up all the openings to those rooms.
Also don't get the water-based finish - it's cheaper but wears out quickly.

Thanks so much! I'll ask them to tape up the room and we'll sleep at my in-laws!

Re: Question about refinishing wood floors
We slept in our house, on a different level and it wasn't bad... BUt even though everything was taped and sealed shut, that fine yellow dust does get everywhere, so just be ready to clean everything after its all done.

I didn't find it to be too bad. Definitely not like your mom's experience.
If you have forced air/central air, just make sure you tape up the vents.
