question about scrapbook for my MIL

question about scrapbook for my MIL

When I was planning for my wedding, making photo montages, and making some collages for our house, my MIL loaned me almost all of the albums from when her kids were growing up. She usually keeps these albums in strorage. She told me to take whatever pictures I wanted and didn't seem to care if I removed them form the album. I felt funny about it, so my DH made color copies of everything we used so that we did not take her pictures away from her albums.

Do you think she would like if I made her a scrapbook from her albums? I would scrapbook about all 3 kids. I would try to make one book that covers most of their growing up. RIght now there are stacks of books, and there is not one book that she can show people. And, if I make her a swcrapbook, should I still keep her old albums intact? Should I use copies instead of original pictures again?

As I said, there are stacks of albums, but there are some missing because their house was detroyed in a fire a few years ago and she only has the albums that were at DH's grandmothers.

Another question--If I do this for her, should I do it for my own mother? Before you answer, you should know that my mom is not into pictures and sentiments. She buys me scrapbooking items as gifts but she isn't so interested in seeing the finished books.

I think your MIL would really appreciate you doing that for her!! It sounds like a wonderful idea, very sweet and sentimental. Surely a nice gesture towards her and your new family. I would stick to making copies of the pictures, she may want the originals to stay in their albums. As for your mom, I would say do the same but if she's not into those kinds of things then I don't think it's necessary. But you should certainly ask her if she'd like a scrapbook too, so she doesn't feel forgotten.

That would be great. I think that's a ton of work though.

How about asking your mom if she would like it. Do your MILs first and then show it to your mom and ask her.

That sounds like a great idea. I'm sure she would love to have all of the best and most important photos in one place. And you don't have to to it for your mom just because you're doing it for MIL. If your mom makes any indication that she likes it or wishes she had one, you can always do one for her, too, at some point

I agree. I know you'd like to make her a scrapbook, but you might consider one of the photo albums you can make on the photo websites like My Publisher or Shutterfly or something. This way you just scan in the original and it comes back print quality. Not a big scrapbook fan myself, so I just think this option is nicer/neater.

Re: question about scrapbook for my MIL

Yeah, but I'm already into scrapbooking. It would not be an entirely new venture for me. I already know that I enjoy scrapbooking. I have lots of papers and stickers and punches. What I'm considering making is not a full size scrapbook anyway. It would be the first time I did a scrapbook to give away.

I also like the photo books from online. I made one for each of my last 2 vacations. I will still make scrapbook pages for the same vacations when I have the time. I think I'll ask my DH if he likes the photobook idea better for his mom!!!
