Question about stencils?

I am thinking of ordering one of these brass stencils from a website. I plan to sort of roll on paint it onto each invite. Has anyone worked with stancils before? I want the paint to look uneven, like it's worn away...
I have never done this before, but plan to DIY on my invites, and this would be a real personal touch.
The 'feeling' of the reception is very vintage/ south pacific.

I use stencils all the time in card making and scrapbooking. I would suggest you buy repositioning tape so you can use the tape to hold down the stencil and then remove it when you are done and it won't stick to the paper underneath. As far as to get the worn look, I would suggest maybe to sponge on the ink vs rolling it on that way you will get the worn look through the sponge. Another option would be to roll it on and let it dry and distress it with sandpaper.
