Did anyone else find a difference in their pay checks due to changes in tax laws?
My paycheck was about 100 dollars less than it usually is and my boss claims its because she didnt receive the notice until this month of the changes in taxes. So instead of taking out what she was supposed to in January checks, she took it all out in one lump sum, but she explains nothing. It was a horrible thing to depend on a full check and then find 100 dollars missing with virtually no explanation..does anyone know if this is kosher??? I am so bad with these things.

I oversee payroll for my company and I am not aware of any significant change in w/h taxes that would require that kind of adjustment. In the beginning of the year there's usually a slight change - but only by a few dollars.
Did you change anything ? Withholding allowances or from married to single?
I think that anything that can significantly change your paycheck should be discussed with you prior to the adjustment.
It doesn't sound right to me. I would ask them for a more detailed explanation.

A few dollars maybe..I think last year when this happened I started making like 4 dollars less a paycheck. She says we will see the real accurate change in our next one so I will be able to tell then.

I wouldn't wait. I presume they use a payroll company (like ADP), their updates are automatic and immediate. An adjustment like that had to be manual (prepared & submitted by your payroll person) and they HAVE to have a record of it.

Actually she does do it herself but I think something is definately weird. I am mad that she didnt warn us before hand.

My company uses EPIX for payroll and my paycheck has not changed. It is the same amount as last years.

did the taxes line specifically change? or just your overall paycheck?
could it be a change in the medical coverage?? my paycheck changed quite a bit because US Healthcare changed their deductibles for 2004.

It sounds like it has nothing to do with a tax change, but rather your company's error of some sort which they needed to rectify. In this case with such a substantial amount involved, you should have been notified and possibly given the opportunity to spread it out over a few pay checks if possible.
