I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen right now and have been on it for about six years. But yeah, I have one four-day weekend around Thanksgiving this month, and one four-day weekend around Christmas next month. And guess what? My period should be beginning on the Thursday during both of those holidays. I'm really upset b/c I'd rather not get it for at least one long weekend, it's just such a bother. I've read that you can skip the placebo pills (the last green pills) and go right onto the next pack, and it'll skip for that month. I have 10 days left of blue pills in my pack, then it's the green. Has anyone tried this, and what happened?
Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
what about taking 6 pills each session? that might make it go back on a weekday scedule...
I say try skipping this month...the worst thing is that you spot...(IMO better than your period...worrying about changing etc)
the best thing is that you fit into the % that has nothing bad happen!!!

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
You mean taking 6 of the green pills instead of the 7? It was always a blue pill that I accidentally lost that I went to the next one that made my period come a day earlier.
I think I will try it. If it doesn't work, at least I know never to try again, but I guess I should see if my body reacts okay to it. At least if I'm still getting it during Christmas, my fiance is only off on Christmas, then he's working nights through the weekend until Tuesday. So it's not like a lot of action would be missed anyway. I'd never try this for my wedding and honeymoon though even if I am successful. I'm going to make sure to check months and months ahead that I'm not scheduled to get it around then. You can probably prevent it somehow if you do it way ahead of time.

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
I've done it on several occasions and it's fine..no spotting...a little cramping during the PMS time, but I don't get it. Then you get it at the regular time in the 2nd pack. I actually skipped for a few months in a row....the only time it kind of didn't work was when I tried to skip for surgery...due to the trauma to my body I got a short, light friend anyways.

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
Well, I'll let you know how it goes around the weekend after Thanksgiving if it worked for me. Then I'll see if my period is normal next month.
Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
once you try it...and if it works...you'll do it all the time...

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
I would call your doctor and check. I am on Ortho tri cyclen and I told my doctor I wanted to skip my period for the wedding. I am getting married in February and she told me to call her this month to work out how to skip it. She said the ortho is not like all the other plls that you could just skip it. I would definitly check with the doctor, you don't want to have any problems. I never called my doc because I am scared to play around with it. As of now, I should get my period the week before my wedding so I am keeping my fingers crossed it goes as planned and I don't have it for te big day!!!

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
this is just my experience:
i have been on Ortho Cyclen for 8+ years. twice i wanted to skip my period. both times i was fine and skipped when i wanted to, but the following week (not even my period week) i got my period for 15-16 days!!!!!! everybody reacts differently, so just be prepared.
good luck!!

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
Yeah, I asked her, and she said it should be fine. Of course, I can have bad results like other people, but it's not hurting me. She just said not to do it two months in a row.
If you're on ortho, it should definitely come as scheduled. Mine does.

not to change the subject but do you think being on the pill for too long could be bad ?

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
It's not supposed to be bad. On their website b/c I was looking earlier about this, it says you don't need to take breaks, and you can take it for as long as you want. I can't believe it's been like 6 years for me on it. I started at 18.

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period
I've done it and end up spotting... so I make sure I do it before I need to.. I did it about 2 months before my wedding so I didn't have to worry about it, because I would have gotten it the day after I got married. I felt PMSey for the entire time, but it was worth not having it on my honeymoon. I've done it a couple of times before for vacations, etc.... its really no big deal.
