Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen right now and have been on it for about six years. But yeah, I have one four-day weekend around Thanksgiving this month, and one four-day weekend around Christmas next month. And guess what? My period should be beginning on the Thursday during both of those holidays. I'm really upset b/c I'd rather not get it for at least one long weekend, it's just such a bother. I've read that you can skip the placebo pills (the last green pills) and go right onto the next pack, and it'll skip for that month. I have 10 days left of blue pills in my pack, then it's the green. Has anyone tried this, and what happened?

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

I've called different doctors, and they say it should be okay. Casg, did you at least not get it when you didn't want to get it? And when did your next period start then?

I thought you couldn't do that if you were on a tri-phasic pill (the one w. different levels of hormones)

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

I am thinking if I could just make it start 2 days later, that would be good. I wonder if I could just not take my pills for 2 days and then continue right after? I know I would have to use additional protection then b/c that could increase my chances of pregnancy.

I'm on one that is just the same pill 21 days and then 7 days placebo. I did it for my wedding & honeymoon and wasn't super thrilled. I ended up spotting a lot which was almost more annoyin than just having it right out for the usual 4 days. But, I know I've heard some people did it and had no problems whatsoever.

i spoted but didnt get it
but the next month it wouldnt stop

im fine now

i asked my doctor what i can do to stop it and he to not take the sugar pills like you said
its safe but everybody is different so the reaction i would try it first you dont want to ruin your holidays.

I wish i tried it first before i went away and did it
i was so yucky my whole vacation

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

Uhhh, I don't know if it's worth trying. I'm going to ask the doctor about holding off taking pills for 2 days and then continuing. If that makes it come just 2 days later, that would be sooo great.

I am going to look into going on Seasonale. I just read that today in my research about skipping periods. It came out last month, and you only get your period 4 times a year. You do still take a pill everyday, it's not a shot.

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

Well, I talked to my doctor. She said not to do the not taking pills for 2 days thing. She said you either take it or don't take it completely for a week. She said I could do skip the placebo pills. I mentioned about the bloating and possibly my bleeding lasting long the second month, and she said it could happen, but it's rare. So some people are fine, some people are not. I guess I will still try. I'm going to have my period on the holidays either way.

Ok, there's two things to look forward to when you get pregnant besides a baby:

1) No periods
and 2) maternity leave

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

I did it all the time when I was on Ortho...I would get bloated just before I was supposed to get it...but it would go away...when I started the new pack...

my GYN even said you could do it for 6-12 months striaght...no problem...there is some benefit to it...but I cannot remember..

never had spotting, bloating or any bad side effects from doing it...

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

Well, that makes me feel better. I'm just debating it now. If my period next month lasts longer, that could make it go into New Year's then. Or perhaps, I should just try it for next month instead of this month.

Right now, my period starts on Thursdays. I'd really like to get it to start on Monday or Tuesday, so I never have it on the weekend. I have to find out about that. That would probably take a few months as it would have to change gradually.

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

I did it recently (over the summer) and I spotted the whole time. I would have rathered just gotten my period because the spotting was annoying. That was the first time I tried it, not sure if you did it 2 months in a row if you'd have better success.

I am also on ortho-tri and I did it 2x to move thing around so I don't get my period during Hm and wedding. I had no problems and there was absolutelly no spotting!

Re: Question about the Pill Regarding Skipping Period

So it's basically however my body works, that is it. I don't know if I want to risk having spotting and a long period. Why am I getting them for both holidays? Why? It's not fair! I should have checked this out months ago, when I probably would have had more time to do something about it. When I started this year, I think I was getting it on Sundays, but a few different times, I lost a pill and had to take for the next day, and it made it come a day earlier each time. Dammit! If it would have stayed for Sunday, it would have been perfect.
