question about tipping
This might sound terrible but I don't really plan on tipping everyone. We will tip the maître d and the bridal attendant whatever the recommended amount is and I was planning on giving the waitstaff $25 each. Other than that I just feel like it's too much. I have a friend that does wedding photography and she said that she doesn't expect a tip and doesn't really get tipped either. I feel like it has to be what you can afford

Do people tip the band or DJ? I'm thinking no...

I agree. Its frustrating that you pay an exorbitant amount of money for hair, makeup, venue, etc and people still expect more. The wedding industry can really suck you dry.

I will be tipping based on the service I receive & based on what I can afford also..

I was told and I've read that you don't have to tip if they are owners. So our dj/florist/photographer won't be getting extra because they own their businesses.

that's the tough part because you have to predetermine what you will give in order to have the envelopes ready to go

What if the owner is the mc and the dj is not? I feel funny tipping one and not the other.

question about tipping
We plan on feeding our vendors since it will be a long day and since we have to pay to feed them (Half the price of a guest), we will not be tipping on top of that. We can do one or the other and FH feels feeding them and tipping is just crazy. We booked our limos yesterday and was told that taxes and tips are included in the price but that if we wanted to tip on top of that we could throw the guy another $50 but that it is not expected.. however form telling me this though now I feel like an *** if we DON'T give more? It's confusing and really just TOO MUCH!

Re: question about tipping
We plan on tipping everyone!!! I know all to many people who work in the industry and rely on receiving tips as their hourly salary isn't always the minimum wage.
We plan on doing: Maitre'd $500 Bridal Attendant $100-150 Waitstaff $50-75 each Bartenders $100 each Hair Stylist $100 or so each Limo Drivers $50 each Alterations $25 Flowers Delivery $20 each Officiant $25 DJ/MC $100-150 each Photog $150-200 Cake Delivery $10
I'm still not sure if I'm getting makeup done or not but would tip and getting nails done the night prior but not sure exactly who is coming to that yet but would be $10 each person for mani/pedi.
I do realize I tip way to generously but like I said, I know so many people in the industry and they literally rely on tips.

I agree with you! We are tipping all of the above vendors except for the wait staff because our contract says our maitre'd tip covers the wait staff as well. Also, not tipping the bartenders because they make alot of tips at weddings from the guests.
3-5pp maitr'd 100 bridal attendant 50 photobooth 75 limo 20 shuttle 75 for each photographer (having 2) 75 for the videographer 75 for the DJ 100 for the MC (also there for cocktail hour singing) 30 for the upright bass player at cocktail hour (leaving at 8pm) 100 for hair 125 for makeup (more expensive)

I would check before tipping bartenders or waitstaff, I've never heard of that and do not plan on tipping them
