so i was just reading a post and someone mentioned something about being on birth control makes it harder to lose weight
is this really true? i've never heard of this before. i guess if you are on birth control there's nothing you can do to get around that hurdle huh?

Re: Question about weight loss
it's not necessarily the pill DIRECTLY making it harder, but sometimes the pill can make you hungrier which makes it much harder to diet.
It definitely did that to me! I started becoming a lot hungrier and craving junk food after going on it. I guess it really does trick the body into thinking it's pregnant!

Re: Question about weight loss
I had actually lost a lot of weight while on the pill. If you think your pill is making you want to eat more or crave more, then ask to switch pills. The newer pills have less influence on eating and cravings then they used to.

I didn't notice a difference in my appetite when I started the pill.

Re: Question about weight loss
It definitely depends on the pill and your perception of it, I think. If you think, 'oh, I'm on the pill, which makes you gain, weight, so I'm gong to gain some', you probably will!
When I first started the pill like 3 years ago, I actually lost 20 lbs! then I switched and stop losing weight..but I don't know if that affected it at all.

Re: Question about weight loss
It really depends on your chemistry and the type of pill you take. Some make you hungrier, some make you retain water, etc.
I tried 5 different pills and ended up gaining 20 lbs and they all had different side effects-- when I started to gain, I exercised more and ate less, but my body just liked being heavier on the pill. My poor friend gained 60 lbs and her blood pressure shot up and she lost weight as soon as she went off the pill. I have friends who only gained 5lbs and they were lucky.
I had male doctors tell me that it was ridiculous that I thought the pill made me gain weight. However, all the female nurses at the same clinic agreed that they saw a lot of women including themselves gain. The 2 pills I liked the most were Alesse and Yasmin.

Re: Question about weight loss
I have gained with certain pills in the past. The pill I am on now I did not gain anything. I guess it depends on the pill. The doctor changes the RX until you are on one that is right for your body. I am on Trinessa which is generic for orthotricylin.
