Question about your wedding dress..

I've seen posts on here every once in awhile from brides who say they got a call that their dress came in and they went to try it on again. I got my dress at Pronovias in NYC and I don't get to go in and try it on when it comes into the store I don't think.. they said the next time I go is for my first fitting in March. Is that normal? Or am I supposed to go when the dress comes in?

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

Ohh, good question! Are you leaving it at the store until March? I think a lot of bridal salons request that you pick it up when it arrives.

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

Yeah it's staying there... They said that I don't need to come back to the salon until March 5, which is my first fitting. I was just under the impression that everyone is supposed to go to the salon when the dress comes in and try it on again lol.. I'm bummed that I have to wait 7 more months to see the dress again!

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

Hmm.. I bet you could call and ask to see it again. I would definitely want to take a peek at it once it comes to make sure everything looks good!

Re: Question about your wedding dress..

I tried my on when it came in. The store didn't carry the dress so they wanted to make sure everything was correct.

My sister got her dress last year (from a different store than me) and they wouldn't let her try it on because they didn't want it to get dirty or wrinkled. She did go and look at it to make sure it was the correct dress and everything was OK.

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

I tried on mine when it came in, and they are holding it there until I start fittings. I think it's a good idea to look at it and try it on, in case anything is wrong with it!

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

I didn't go until my first fitting and everything was fine. I did make my first fitting early though, because I had lost 30+ lbs and I was having the sleeves removed which was extra work to make the top of the dress look right and I wanted to make sure it was going to be enough time and it would look right.

My dress wound up falling right down when I put it on, and it had to be taken in a lot, so I was glad I went early.

The sleeves though She asked me if I was sure that I wanted them removed. i said yes, and she just cut them right off w/ a scissor. I was like 'This is what I paid $100 for?' But she really did have to reconstruct the top so it was worth it.

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

I was told that I would get a call when my dress came in but they would not have me try it on until my first fitting. They said they actually store the dresses in a separate building where they are kept safe and at the right temperature, etc. They said it would be too risky to have the dress transported to the shop several times. So I wouldnt expect to try it on right away.

My dress came in a year before my wedding... they held it there. I went to try it on when it came in, finished paying it off and they stored it for me!

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

They scheduled me for a 'try-on' and they told me that it is not my first fitting. They want me to be sure that it is the gown I ordered. I went to RK bridal and I ordered a Mon Cheri gown.

My dress came from Bay shore Bridal. Once i ordered the dress, they did not contact me until it was time for the first fitting, and everything worked out well!

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

Bridal Reflections holds the dress for you. You can go see it, but you don't try it on or have a first fitting until 6 weeks before.

Question about your wedding dress.. - Long Island Weddings

I got mine at Kleinfeld's and to my knowledge it doesn't come in until 6-8 weeks before the wedding (which is honestly making me nervous). They're very regimented in how they do things, much more so that a smaller local shop would be. I imagine Pronovias to be along the same lines as Kleinfeld, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have a similar policy.

I got mine from BR in Massapequa and I was able to go try my dress on when it came in. It wasn't a fitting but I wanted to see that 1. It was my dress. I didn't want any surprises and 2. How well it fit on me at my size.

Yeah they are very similar to Kleinfeld, in fact some of the employees previously worked at Kleinfeld. When I called it was basically not an option to try on again until the first fitting. They seem very organized and set in the way they do things, so I guess I will just wait until March and hope all is well! haha
