I know there is a board on this, but I am not finding the answer there. Do any of you have recommendations or tips as to how we can save on airfare for this trip? it is SO expensive - wondering if anyone figured out a bargain we can learn from.

My TA said that although cruise prices and other HM hot spots went down... this particular area has actually seen an increase in airfare.
I looked into booking the hotel and airfare seperate. The hotel deals were sooo dooable.. but the airfare alone was over $3000 for both of us with return flights and that was the cheapest I found.
You have to remember you are just about basically flying across the world! It's far!! It's going to be pricy any way you look at it. BUT...
I found that the best thing to do was to book it all through a TA as a package deal. I found some great deals through my TA. We are paying about 8400 (it was 8600 but that went down because I changed some thing... and actually making it longer made it a little less too) for both of us for 14 days in Moorea and Bora Bora... and those days don't include the travel time. I think all in all we will be gone about 17 or 18 days. In any case.. there are hotels that offer a stay 6 pay 4 night deal or similiar.... so you should definately look into that. I know you were asking about the airfare... but the hotel deals might level that out a little bit.

I'm going but I'm splitting my time between Bora Bora for a week and Australia for another.
The airfare is pricey! I would take Kerri's suggestion- she's got a fantastic price for what she's doing!

If you go to Australia and Bora Bora...it actually is cheaper. But it's a pain...you'd need to fly in and out of Sydney...which is 9 hr flight from Bora Bora. But< I found you could fly for 1/2 the price by doing it that way.

We're going to Bora Bora first and then flying to Sydney. We're staying in Sydney and then flying to Cairns and from Cairns home.
It's LOTS of flying but you're already on that side of the world Not sure when I'd get back there. Since we're also flying within Australia it's eating some of the savings.
