Not always...but you can request a priest for the wedding.

Not for us.. we are using a different priest that is a family friend of FH... We were afraid of not being able to specify who we wanted otherwise.. there was one priest at my church we would have preferred not to have had.. hope I don't get struck by lightning for admitting that!

For me it was. I got married at a smaller church and the priest we dealt with worked with us on everything.

Well, we first met with a deacon, but we were married by a different priest (who we requested). We met with him once before the wedding, too, to go over the details.

However, we were married in the parish I grew up in - so I knew the priest already.

Ours is, unless we decide to pick another. We love him though!

When we called the church to arrange our first meeting with the priest, we were asked if we had a preference as to which priest we would like to preside over our wedding. We did not, so they scheduled us with whoever happened to be available and while we do like him and intend to have him perform the ceremony, he did tell us that if after our meeting we did not feel comfortable with him we could request another priest.

so it wouldnt be rude to request another priest?
what is a good way to go about that?

It depends on the church - at St. Brigid's Parish in Westbury, they assign you a priest or a deacon before you come for your appointment and that's who you have your initial appointment with and who does your ceremony.... at least that is what happened in my case. HTH

not necessarily. i got married at St. Brigids last year and because of scheduling conflicts, Priests changing Parishes, and some Priests being sick, we werent 'assigned' our Priest until a month before the wedding. Adrianna actually told me that it was not customary for them to 'assign' or promise a Priest to anyone until a few weeks before the wedding cause they never know if things could change.

if it was not a full mass you're requesting and you wanted only the ceremony, then they have Deacon Frank do it and HIM they can promise cause he's basically always around.

We just met with our priest on Saturday and he will be the one who is marrying us -- unless something major happens.

My uncle who is a Catholic priest will be the one officiating at our wedding at St. Patrick's Cathedral - he's not a priest there but they make exceptions, they just require a ton of paperwork and some license for priests.

You may want to let the priest u want to marry you contact the church himself to find out about the requirements.

Goodluck!
