Hi-
I'm a non-tenured school librarian (my wedding year will be my tenure year - eek)and I am curious if you will be inviting your principals to your weddings. I'm just so confused about this. I'm wondering if she will go if invited, because I work with a young staff, and I feel if she attends, then she may feel obligated to attend every wedding that comes up in the future. Please let me know what you are doing and what you think I should do (especially being non-tenured)...thanks so much in advance!

Question for brides-to-be who are teachers...
I didn't invite my principal because of the 'go to one, go to all' reason you mentioned. I heard through the grapevine that she'd rather not be invited because having to respond no makes her feel bad.
Off topic ~ I am considering doing a second master's in library science. Could you recommend a good school? Thanks! : )

Teachers...
A little more off topic, I am an teacher on the hunt for a job. Are there any openings in your district? I am sure you know how hard it is to find a teaching job. Any leads would be great!!!

Hi-
I went to Queens College. They have an excellent library program - and you can't beat the price. When I attended, it was only $180/credit, which is incredible for graduate school, as I'm sure you already know! :)
Queens is an extremely rigorous library program, but you know what, well worth it and well respected by employers because of it. I thought I would lose my mind while I was earning my Masters, but when I started my job, I felt extremely prepared, and knew I had worked so hard for a good reason. By far, it was the best decision I ever made - I really do love my job. Please email me with ANY questions you have: [email protected]
I'd be happy to help!! :) Good Luck!

Hi-
I work for the Smithtown School District, and I recommend you send a resume. I honestly can't tell you if there are technically any openings left, because they try to fill them immediately, and like all other school districts, many times try to fill positions within. BUT, they are opening up an additional elementary school next year, so there may very well be openings that I don't know about. It really could be worth your while to send a resume. To find out information about the district, check out the website:

The best of luck to you!

I am also a (non-tenured) teacher and Yes, I'm inviting the principal and the assistant principal. I felt funny about leaving them out. I'm also inviting a handful of teachers I'm closest with...and the guidance dep't whom I speak to on a daily basis (my fiance disagrees...but I was just invited to two of their children's weddings). The principals might not come, but I felt obligated to extend the invite.

Question for brides-to-be who are teachers...
Hi, I am a non tenured teacher as well. I am inviting both my principal and ass't principal. To be honest I know my principal won't come...but I am pretty sure that the ass't will. I feel the need to invite them. Hope this helps.

Question for brides-to-be who are teachers...
I invited my principal and A.P. They both came and had a great time. I have been in my school for 5 years and have a very good relationship with them both. I graduated with my MLS from Queens as well. Great program but lots of work. The NYC Bd of ed is actually paying for me to take additional credits at Syracuse. The program there is top and exceptional. I will be there 10 days this summer and the rest online. Hey as long as they are paying I can't pass this one up.

Small world, I live in Smithtown School District... I wonder if you'll have my kids some day!
As for me, I work in Commack SD, and we may have positions open, but to be eligible you need to take our writing sample, which is only offered in February.
You might want to send your resume in anyway, because when positions open during the summer they panic and call whoevers resume happens to be on top of the pile.
Good luck to you! : )

I am elementary
I actually did send a resume to Commack and they were having a job fair but I did not get my resume in on time. When is the best time to send for the summer? Now?
Marnles: Thanks for the info on Smithtown. I will check it out :)
and am NOT inviting my principal or asst principals...for one...I guess HS's are bigger, but I rarely see them...two...they are retiring...why bother...three...I don't like them...:)
I am inviting my department chairperson though...hes great...
Although my mom is inviting her principal and she is coming!!:) they have a MUCH different relationship...
check the NYT week in review...after the 2 vacation weekends...this week should be packed!!
Oh I am doing my MLS at Queens and am in the process of losing my head...CW Post also has a masters AND PhD program.
I have heard about the Syracuse program...Does UConn also have an online program???

aug9brde, I also work with marnels and my advice is...
to send your resume directly to each elementary school. We have 8 elementary schools, and I know that sending your resume to the central office really doesn't get you anywhere. As Marnels suggested, look at our website and send your resume to each elementary school... They have the principal's name and address (of the school) listed there. In my opinion, that is the best way to be recognized. Too many of the resume's get lost at central office.
I would recommend this to any school district you are applying to. It has worked for me as well as some of my other collegues.
Good Luck, and if we can be of further assistance, let us know!

Good point Kelly4...
Smithtown is a very big school district, and I agree, send the resume to each building AND to Central Office...someone is bound to pick it up and they WILL keep in on file. When I interviewed, I actually had my first one for a different school in district. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the 2nd round of interviews when invited back, so that building actually sent my name/resume over to another building who also needed a librarian, I went through the rest of the interview process with them, and got the job...so you never know!! Good Luck!!!

Send your resume to Commack in July. We always get last minute retirees and maternity extensions then. We dealing with Commack, don't send a resume to individual schools as they are required to forward them to the district office. The hiring process must (for some insane reason)always begin there.
Good luck!

Aug9bride....
I am also a teacher, also getting married on August 9th! Just thought I'd let you know. I am a math teacher in a high school so I am inviting my whole department which is 15 people and their spouses/dates. That also includes my chairperson but I don't think I am inviting any principals, or vps. Less than 4 months!!!! I'm starting to get psyched.
