i think that this has been asked before..... but here i go again
we just got the email that one of our payments was due so i had our contract out and saw that it says 10% Tipping charge on the bottom of that
for you girls who have used duet already - did you have to give 10% - did you, was it a sep bill or did you just give it on your own.
a 10% tip seems like alot to me - it will be almost $450.00
also did you tip the day of the wedding or when you pick up your album.
thanks in advance jenn

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
I had that in my contract too, but it seemed to me that they didn't enforce it. They never mentioned it to me.
We ended up tipping on our own about $300 in total, which was alittle less than 10%.

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
I was hoping to do my major tip when I picked up my album and proofs. After all most goods and services get tipped when you receive the final product and upon final payment of goods RECEIVED!
Not sure why this is different in the wedding industry. when I waitressed no one tipped me between the salad and dinner only after the entire meal.

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
It's definitely optional. I noticed it when we were getting ready to sign the contract and depending on when your contract was done or maybe what version they picked up when they were drafting your contract....their most current version states optional next to that.

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
My fiance and I, both of us being lawyers scrutinized the contract. We asked what that 10% clause was all about and Eric became a little embarrased and he said he put it in there because a lot of horribly cheap (my words, not his) JUST DIDN'T TIP THE PHOTOGRAPHERS! When we explained to him that we would never do something so unconscionable, he agreed to take it out because then technically we would be contractually obligated to pay 10% on top of the tip we are of course going to give them. He took it out. If you explain to him that it is not necessary to have it in your contract because you and your fiance were not raised in caves (LOL), he'll take it out. Frankly, I don't ever see him doing something shady like enforcing the 10% extra gratuity for clients that give tips. I don' t hink he's looking to screw his clients. I think he's just looking to protect his employee photographers. I thought standard is 20% but I frankly haven't researched what %ages of tips are standard for every particular vendor, so I ma not sure if it is 20% or not.

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
I'm not a Duet Bride, but I was interested in your post because I've been trying to stay on budget and tipping is one of those areas that can put you way over if you don't plan for it.
'Photographer/Videographer: This is completely optional. If you're paying top dollar for their fees, they shouldn't be expecting a gratuity. However, a thank-you in the form of cash is always appreciated, especially if the photographer or videographer doesn't own his or her own studio. Estimate $20 to $25.'
I was planning on tipping, but was really unsure how much. (10% of my photographer's fee is way more than $20)
Do you tip the assistant too?

Re: Question for Duet Brides - Tipping
My contract said: gratuities appreciated and customary. It didn't suggest any amount, but I will tip my photographers and video guy $30 each. (or $100 for all three) the day of.
When I go pick up my proofs, I may tip them accordingly.
