We fought over putting a TV on the registry. What are your opinions on this....

Re: Question for FH
Just a question, who is going to buy the TV for you guys off of the registry?

Re: Question for FH
Addendum: I was just thinking that if no one bought the TV, it's possible that if you guys are looking into buying one anyway that you could get the discount from things left on your registry after your wedding date that many places offer.

Re: Question for FH
Depnds on how expensive of a tv ( in relation to you other gifts) I could see a bridal party chipping in or something.

Re: Question for FH
i find it funny, but not weird...
if it's what you WANT and NEED, i would go for it! i am NOT a big fan of useless gifts, perhaps a few people will chip in and buy it!

Re: Question for FH
I have heard of people registering for living room furniture and lawn mowers, so why not a TV?
The whole registry is just a suggestion list, who says anyone will buy anything from the list at all?

Re: Question for FH
We fought in the store over this! I told him no - just like you all stated - who would buy this for us and what would peopel think! But he fought on the idea that we would get a discount if no one purchased it for us. In the end I won - we didn't put it on the registry but he keeps nagging me about it. He's such a little kid sometimes - but I love him to pieces.

Re: Question for FH
all FH's like me want a TV
if you need/want...put it on just goes it on doesn't mean it will be brought or has to be brought. As for you, do you think you need the TV or you just don't want it on the list?
ps...what kind of TV? cause if you are talking plasma...good luck hehe, unles u got somone coming to the wedding that won lotto and didn't spend it all.

Re: Question for FH
Personally - I don't think we need it. We have a good tv although it is kinda on the old side. I've never seen it on the registry so I would never have thought to put it on...but apprently lots of couples have this argument.
As far as size/style - he suggested one of each so people have options. He's killing me with this.

Re: Question for FH
Another thing - if we put this on the registry I could see his parents buying it for us - they are very generous like that. So I don't want it on there cause I don't think there is a need for it - and I can't even begin to imagine receiving this gift.
I just wanted to throw the question out to people. I don't think there is a definite yes or no to this question but for us I said no. FH says yes as long as it is reasonable - no plasma of course.

Re: Question for FH
My grandma actually bought one for my SIL when she was getting married. It wasn't on her registry, but my grandma thought they could use it since they were buying a house and had nothing.

Re: Question for FH
I was under the assumption that the discount that applied to registries wasnt limited to what was on the registry. If it is though - and you want the discount - you can alwasy put it on after the shower -

What you can do is throw it on right before the wedding so no one else sees it but you still get the discount afterwards.

Re: Question for FH
This is an excellent idea!!! Plus it'll shut FH up for a while about the TV.
