Question for Greek Brides

Question for Greek Brides

This might be a stupid question but I just wanted to be sure... Do the koumbari necessarily have to be married to each other? Because we wanted to have FH's brother as the best man/koumbaro and my sister as MOH/koumbara... Instead of having them just be up there as best man and maid of honor, we wanted them to have a special part, rather than having them just standing there and having other ppl be our koumbari... That's okay right? (I hope my question makes sense lol)

Thanks!

Re: Question for Greek Brides

Ive seen it where they are not married.

I am christian orthodox which is same exact religion as greek orthodox well even that is christian orthodox but they just say greek orthodox. I did get married in the catholic church though bc DH is catholic and alot more religious than I am. However, they also had told me that the best man/maid of honor wouldve had to been christian orthodox as well, depends on how strict the church is though i guess. Which wouldnt have worked for me since MOH no Best man were orthodox.

In the past yes most couples did pick a married couple not necessarily bc you HAD to but its just the way it was done and it was tradition that way. Same with godparents we pick married couples usually. My parents also had a married couple and so did most of my family
