Question for Homeowners - Did your seller leave anything behind for your new home?

They left us a bottle of champagne and a card that said 'we hope this house brings you as much happiness as it has for us the last 30 years.' I thought that was really sweet.

I was hoping they would have left the lawn mower or patio furniture though Did your seller leave anything behind?

Ours did. Flowers, A bottle of champage. And a picture on poster paper in the basement she drew for us! :)

They also left us tools, a brand new lawn mover, shop vac, radio, cd player, tables and chairs, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, etc. much more. They were retiring to a community in FL. so what did they need a lawn mower for???

Very nice people.

Thats so sweet.
There were a number of things left behind at our house: 2 TV's One good one bad, a phone, garden hoses, one of those portable wardrobe racks with a canvas cover, tile and a few odd garden tools. Our house was part of an estate. I think the stuff left behind were basicly items that they didnt want to bother with.

They left us champagne, an exercise bike, a table, various knickknacks in the garage...and a HUGE pile of garbage in front of the house that I came dangerously close to having to call a carter to remove. Thank God for escrow money.

That was very sweet. Our previous homeowner left us nothing but had offered to sell us her dining room set (which we turned down).

The lady did say she wanted 3 tiles from her kitchen that have her initial on them. She told us they meant a lot to her and she would have a tile person come in and remove and replace them. No one ever did, and everyone always asks us what the initals DMA stand for. After we were int eh house a year and a half, our neightbor tells us he heard from this lady and was asking if we had her tiles to return to her. Umm, not, we're not ripping up the backsplash to give you your tiles......

Trish, that is so funny!

Our seller left all of the appliances and the blinds on every window. We were so excited about the bllinds, because there are soooo many windows.

That is a nice idea to leave buyers champagne and a note. I think I'll do that someday!

They asked us if we wanted some pieces of furniture that they didn't want so we kept the living room couch and kitchen table and chairs. They also asked if we wanted their swing set and we kept that. The BBQ was also left (but it is on a pole in the ground and was very dirty),

When we moved in the couch smelled badly like dog - so we immediatley removed it.

Other than that we were left with a lot of junk in the backyard that they did not remove...including rotted newspapers and garbage, a rusty file cabinet and children's shoes!

that is very thoughtful of them!

the sellers left us the all of the stove/oven, big microwave, washer, dryer, two fridges (one in kitchen, one in garage), entertainment unit for family room, huge U-shaped desk in office, love seat in office, lawn mower, leaf blower, a few more power tools, & all the outdoor tools (rakes, shovels & some other things i have no idea what to do with!).

i think we paid them $250 for all of it.

they moved to a townhouse in chicago and didn't need any of it! lucky us!!

Once we finally got them to close on the deal (2 months after the agreed upon date) they left mostly garbage. We're still astounded at what we're finding in the back yard as we uncover 19 years of neglect - tools, a boot, a pool liner etc. DH is convinced we're going to eventually find a body

They left a BBQ grill that had to be trashed and lots of odds and ends in the basement, a punching bag hanger (seems to be a requirement in LI - we saw them in just about every house we looked at) some car parts and bottles of antifreeze, some old shingles, the rails from an old garage door...

What was really annoying is what she took - the decorative curtain rods (affixed to the wall, she was supposed to leave them), I think there were mirrors in the bathroom too, but all that were left were the bolts in the wall. And the dining room chandelier. None of it was excluded in the agreement, but she took them anyway, and it wasn't worth going after. She was such an awful person we just wanted to be done with her.

Our sellers left us some stuff- some chairs, an old tv and cart, a table, assorted garage stuff, a lawnmower that didn't work, a patio set with REALLY gross cushions, a BBQ that doesn't work! We're also finding things as we clean out the yard- old beer cans in the bushes, old 'things' that we have no idea what they were used for. Oh- and they also left the curtains in the bedrooms- I don't think they were washed in 10 years- I nearly had an asthma attack taking them down! They also left us a bottle of champagne and some beers. Overall, they were a nice couple downsizing to Maryland. Unfortuantely, a lot of the things that they left us were thrown out- as poor as we are buying this house, we certainly don't need anyone else's trash!

A few potatoes, an American flag, a few glasses, a sewing pattern tracing kit, a really ugly hall runner, and strangely, a few old professional photos that look they might be of their children. I know my next door neighbor is friends with them and sees them so I gave her the photos and the potatoes to give to them. ok not the potatoes, I threw those out. lol

They left us a garage full of cr*p. We needed to get a dumpster to remove everything. It would have been nice if there was something useful or nice......The lady actually came to our house two years later trying to tke some of her 'landscape plants' I might add that poison ivy is not considered a landscape plant. This women did NOTHING to this house, she walked around and kept on saying, oh that's new and that's new.....well dull of course everything is new because it was a handy man special when we bought it.

well-- lets see.. We found a toilet in the attic--- and I cant even mention what my husband found while ripping out some bushes in the front yard. Lets just say this ' object' is used by women in many porn videos. We were laughing so hard trying to figure out how it got there!!

That is so awesome that they were thoughtful to leave a bottle of champagne with such kind wishes.

I was greedily hoping the previous owner of our home would have left a Christmas tree behind .. they were supposed to move before Christmas, but then decided to wait until a couple of days after! Oh well.

Things left behind include a pool (they called it a gift), window treatments in several of the rooms, a plastic outdoor table, 2 refrigerators (an old one was left in the basement), 1 dishwasher, 2 washers, 1 dryer .. but basically nothing that made us think .. gee, how thoughtful of them .. whatever was left was basically because it was simply easier to leave than to take. (That doesn' t mean I don't appreciate what we have, though).

WOw Irene that was SO nice of them!! Our previous homeowners handed us index cards with all the info we would need for like the flooring, kitchen, oil, landscaping, garbage pick-up, and there was one card with a gift certificate to the dry cleaners and one with a gift certificate to the chinese food place. Oh and some wine coolers and beer in the fridge. They left us the extra chest freezer, refridgerator and stove in the basement, but that's it.

Champagne and a card - SO sweet!!!!!!

IRENE! You closed?! That's awesome! The owners didn't leave us anything as sweet as that. We got appliances and we were left with VERY VERY dirty windows. Disgusting actually...

Anyway, Irene, that's GREAT!
