I was at a wedding where they used ivory damask table cloths, and over the table cloths, in the center of the table, they laid out square shaped Zardosis. At the time I was told it was an Indian tapestry but I now understand that it's called Zardosi. It was ivory with gorgeous beadwork. I really want them for my wedding and the florist is even planning table decorations that would go with them!! I found a place to order them online but they can no longer get them in the color that I want (ivory with silver and beige beading but I prefer no gold). I was looking for ones that are about 40 in by 40 in.
Where can I get them either on Long Island or in the city? I understand I may be able to get them in the garment district at a good price, but is there a particular store that is recommended. Any suggestions???
I have one that is similar to what I want and I can send a picture of that will help.

Re: Question for Indian brides
I am actually getting custom made favor bags with Zardosi or Zari work as it is commonly called. If you are seriously interested in it, I can pass on information from the woman in India who made the stuff for me. She has artisans who will make the work to your specifications. I had gold Zari put on my favor bags and on my bridesmaids outfits by them. They came out absolutely beautiful. I communicated entirely online and I got my order timely as well.
e.t.a. prices were much cheaper than purchasing them in America even with the cost of shipping. You can pay via paypal.

Re: Question for Indian brides
Here are some samples of Zari/Zardosi work.
WALL PANELS IN ZARI
CUSHION COVERS IN ZARI
JEWELRY POUCHES - I put my bridesmaids jewelry in pouches similar to these.
And, yes, I would be interested in ordering from India!

i definitely think you can have that made through riniko's contact, and for much cheaper than 17 dollars a piece.

Re: Question for Indian brides
At the wedding where I first saw them, I was told that the bride paid $12 in New York City. I just e-mailed a friend who is Indian to see if she or her parents knew where to get these. She said she will get back to me, plus she is going to India and may be able to get them there. However, she always has so much to carry on her trips back from India, and am wondering if it would be costly to pay for her to ship a box back here.
As an aside, this same friend has had her hands (and feet) henna painted several times. I always said I would do it for my wedding, but now I think it would be silly since I'm not Indian and it would seem like I'm just jumping onto a fad thing.

Re: Question for Indian brides
You should be able to email the woman I used to get all the stuff for my wedding. They will custom make it for your specifications. And I think they would much cheaper than you realize. Money goes a lot further back in India.

Re: Question for Indian brides
I chatted on yahoo messenger with the woman and she said it would be dependent on the cost of shipping and the quantity. I said you may order around 20 and she said including shipping it would cost roughly $260.

Re: Question for Indian brides
I don't know if they're the 'real thing' but there is a lady that sells these at a booth in the chelsea flea market on the weekends. (6th ave between 25th and 26th). I think they're around $15 or $20 each....I can't remember. I actually have one from here and can take a photo of it for you so you can see the quality...fm me and I'll send a photo when I'm home from work. I think it's a great idea!

Re: Question for Indian brides
I sent Shivani an e-mail. I will keep you posted. I think that what I want looks like the Zari pillow covers on her website, only bigger. I will let you know what she tells me.
