Re: Question for Interfaith Brides
Msgr. Lisante is AMAZING...you have nothing to worry about with him!!!
Are you getting married in a Catholic Church or does DH just want the marriage to be recognized by the Catholic Church?
I am Catholic and my DH is Jewish. We got married at our reception site but by both a priest and a rabbi. We went to Interfaith Precana but could have gone to non-interfaith...we just chose to do the interfaith one b/c we figured we'd get more out of it. We went to one at my high school - Kellenberg. It was really good and there was only a priest at pre-cana for a very short time to do prayers and talk a little. We didn't have much interaction with him. 2 couples ran pre-cana...one was a Catholic couple and one was interfaith. They were both so cool and open to everything and did not make anyone promise to raise their kids any certain way. You won't have to promise to do that...don't worry.
I being the Catholic did have to sign something saying I will do my best (but it does not make you swear or promise) to raise my children in the Catholic faith. DH did not have to sign anything like that though - just me.
Good luck with everything...FM me if you ever want to talk. Interfaith marriages can be tough b/c of all the family and the way they feel and stuff. I had a lot of crap to deal with when we were getting married and everyone is fine now...until we have kids of course and people ask 'baptism or bris?'...it's a personal thing and no one can tell you how to raise your children.
For your ceremony though make sure you stress the things you want and don't want.....our rabbi messed up big time. We asked for no hebrew to be spoken at all and he sang and chanted in hebrew for what felt like 10 minutes straight...we were dying. We asked him not to read straight from the ketubah and he did which took up so much time and cut into our picture taking time. He also did some other stuff that we asked him not too....we were really annoyed and unhappy with him. It sort of felt like he was competing with the priest - he tried to be funny a few times and was not - he was painful!
So just be sure to very specifically go over your ceremony with both your priest and rabbi!
Good luck!
