Question for Italian Brides Or anyone who would know

Question for Italian Brides Or anyone who would know

My FMIL threw me my shower this past weekend and I received 2 cans of crushed tomatoes in my wishing well. All of this wedding stuff is new to me, I haven't been to a shower since I was about 14.
But I was wondering what it was for. I got this look like I was insane when I asked what's this for? I know you make sauce with it but is there some other special significance? Just curious.

TIA

According to my mother the wishing well is to fill you with household goods - paper towels, napkins, cleaning supplies, spices, etc, etc, etc ... it was a way to stock up the newlyweds closets ... nowadays it's all about OXO gadgets and such but my family still buys all the 'supplies' ...

Maybe someone old-school threw those in!

I think its just so you will have the ingredients to make your sauce!

I dont know of any other significance.

There is some meaning behind it, I don't know what it is BUT
I received a container of salt, corn niblets, crushed tomatoes, pasta in my wishing well. Someone explained it to me, something like some salt to keep away this..Sorry I don't remember

Yes, I agree. There is no meaning. It's just an ingredient for cooking. Italian old women will put anything in a wishing well!....

It is now your time to 'Make Your Own Sauce'

Re: Question for Italian Brides Or anyone who would know

Well I guess I will wait to make my OWN sauce when we get our own house, being as though I am not Italian I could only imagine what FMIL would say if I didn't make it 'just the right way'

Thanks for answering ladies.
