Our lease will be up later this year, so we are starting to think about what we want to get next. We plan to start trying to have children before the lease on the new car is up, so we are looking for something that will be safe for a baby. We are debating the merits of a sedan versus a SUV.
Do you have a sedan or SUV? Why did you choose that? Any regrets?
Thanks for any input. We really appreciate it.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
We leased the highlander with no regrets! I wanted something with more room but did not want a full size truck. I feel very comfortable in it & love the way it handles. Its not as huge as some of the SUV's that are out there. We also looked at the Pathfinder & the Murano. I didn't like the Explorer at all! It's god a lot of room in the back & its very easy to get all of our baby gear in & out. Much easier than a trunk in my opinion.
Good luck!

Re: Question for Moms about your car
Right now I am in the middle of my lease on my Pontiac Vibe, a crossover (not quite a car, not a van/SUV). I love it. And the 4WD and its gas mileage is a huge plus!
The back is big enough for the stroller and carrying all the equipment, plus the seats fold down if need be.
However, when my lease expires, the baby will be almost 18 months old and I will be getting an SUV - and that will depend on what DH thinks is a good SUV for us at the time. Despite its looks, I love the Buick Rendezvous. I want something with room that's not as big as a boat.
No matter how you chose, the SUV's will always be more expensive and guzzle gas. But they provide more room. But they aren't necessarily safer. Definitely research and test drive.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
Right now I have a Passat GLX and my lease is up in July. I love my car. Its A+++++ on safety features. Thats the main reason I got it. Now I am searching for a larger car because its comfy for 1 car seat but not 2.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
We have a Honda crv. Nice peppy car, good trunk size..good on gas, easily manages the one car seat...altho it gets tight with 2 adults in the back seat and the car seat.
also ave a VW eurovan Camper. Much roomier...and if we feel like it, we can go camping in it. Has 2 beds, a sink, stove and refridg.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
Christine -- the Highlander is the SUV I want to get, how is it? Joe wanted the Murano, but it doesn't look too roomy. How funny is that?
We will be car shopping soon (as soon as I find a free weekend) because my wonderful car (which I love) has just crossed the 100,000 mile mark and even though it's my first baby, there's no room for the Cub and her stuff!!! (Right Cira )!!!!
I'm going to have a hard time choosing because there are so many out there that I love, but the ones I really love (like the Acura and the Lexus), I won't get to park on the streets of Maspeth!!!!

I have a Jetta and don't look to trade my little zippy in for anything. Hopefully when Madeleine arrives (whenever that is) we'll have enough room in there for her!

snook, my hubby has a Jetta and I hate to break it to you, but there's not enough room in that either!!!! Especially if you have the carriage in the trunk!

I guess I am the non-sedan, non-suv vote -- I have a 04 Toyota Sienna (mini-van) and I love it!!!

Re: Question for Moms about your car
We have a Ford Explorer and while there's lots of room, I'm glad I'm tall when I'm hauling Luke in and out it. It's a long reach to the middle of the seat, I'm 5'7' and I have to climb in sometimes which doesnt get any easier when the child is getting heavier (and my belly is getting bigger with baby #2). Yet in a lot of ways it's easier than stooping down to get the child in and out of a sedan - headroom-wise. I also think that SUVs are less stable on turns and such but I just go slower than I would in a sedan.
Somehow I dont think my answer helped at all.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
We have a Honda CRV too. I agree with Phyl though....you can only fit one other person in the back with the carseat there. Nevertheless, I like it because it's roomy and has a big trunk, but it's not a HUGE vehicle. It's easy to drive. We plan on trading it in (for something a little bigger) when we get preggo with #2.

Re: Question for Moms about your car
We just got the Nissan Altima. We loved how it looked and it was four doors. We were thinking ahead :)
However, now you girls are scaring me. Will I have room in there for the stroller, etc. My DH says sure, don't worry about it, but what does he know???
We are in this car for the long haul (financed it for 6 years). I hope I didn't make a mistake................................ But I don' t like driving trucks, we had a blazer and I hated driving it, I couldn't see when I was parking etc. IT was a nightmare probably becuase I wasn't use to it.
What do you think about the Nissan Altima.?? It is a four door car........

I just got an Acura MDX, and I love it. It's very roomy, which is what we needed.

I had a jetta...and it always looked so roomy for kids...
but this is my biggest fear...we have 2 cars that we love...but neither are child-friendly...and I am not sure that I want to give up my car

Yabbobaby...believe me you'll give up your car...we just gave up Hubby's car and are now looking to give up my car and replace them with child friendly cars!

Re: Question for Moms about your car
The Jetta looks roomy, but it isn't!! I have to sit in the back because when the car seat is in, nobody can sit in the front and when I sit back there, there's hardly any room for my legs because Joe needs to have the seat back to drive.
At Christmas time, we went to a b'day party and then to do some shopping. Well, we had no room in the car for some of the stuff. I couldn't finish my shopping because of it!!

Re: Question for Moms about your car
Oh No... that's not good...
There is no way we can afford to buy a new car, so hopefully we'll figure this out one way or another...
