Hi, I'm getting married Nov 16, 2008, and I'm wondering where you all took photos between the ceremony & reception. I will certainly take indoor photos at my RH (Leonard's) but if it's a nice day out, are there any outdoor (or other indoor) places in Queens/Nassau you can recommend that will look pretty that time of year. Also, if it rained on your wedding day, how did you deal with it? That's one of my biggest worries since noone can control the weather...what should I do to be prepared?
THANKS!

Re: Question for October & November brides
We got married at the RH, so I can't help with the pictures. But, I live in Bayside and can suggest Whitestone Park (under the Whitestone Bridge) Little Neck Park (off the Cross Island under the Throgs Neck), Fort Totten. Lovely park setting with water views in the background. These are about 15 minutes from Leonards. There may be some places in Great Neck near the water, but I am not sure about that.
It poured on my wedding day. I had my hair blown out straight the evening before, and that morning as I left for the salon I wrapped a big silk scarf around my head. After my hair was done and the headpiece put in, I used the scarf again to protect my hair. Thankfully I had industrial size heavy duty recycling bags at home, so I used one over my dress bag and another over my veil to keep the rain out. If it rains on your wedding day, the limo drivers will have large umbrellas to keep you shielded.
We did manage to get some outside shots. Our RH has a large portico in the front, and we stood under that while the photog took shots towards the gardens. Can't tell that it was raining.
Good attitude that you have that the weather can't be controlled. We had planned on an outdoor ceremony and an outdoor CH. Temps were fine in the mid 60's taht day, but the rain kept us inside.
Enjoy !

Re: Question for October & November brides
I am sorry that I can't be more help, but I got married at my RH and took all of my pictures there. I have seen brides taking pictures on the beach in Oyster Bay. Have you thought of the Roslyn Museum, Planting Fields or Old Westbury Gardens.
We took our pictures at Old Westbury Gardens. The grounds are absolutely stunning, and if the weather is bad they let you take pictures inside the mansion.
If you're interested, I would definitely look into them ASAP - OWG books up REALLY quickly because they only allow 3 wedding parties per day.

Re: Question for October & November brides
I got married in November and we had tropical storm Noel the morning of our wedding day!
Early on in wedding planning, I decided to just let go of the whole weather issue. There could be a weather issue any day of the whole year.
Fortunately, we were able to arrive early at our RH to take pictures. When we booked, we made sure that the hall had both indoor and outdoor photo locations that we liked.
Other options to think about: hotel lobby (if you are staying at a nice hotel) local museum or historical society home of a friend or family member local college or university
Also, I went to Denise Lee Salon for my hair. My stylist was Lisa and she was awesome! The hair survived the rain, wind, dancing, and hora!

Re: Question for October & November brides
We didn't have time to go anywhere outside because the sun had set too much by the time we left the church. I planned on going to the gazebo in Garden City but we just ended up taking our pictures at the hall.

Thank you ladies! I feel a bit better now about the weather issue, and as others have told me as well, photos will turn out fine regardless of where they're taken as long as we look happy

Re: Question for October & November brides
We had a Friday night wedding (the day after Thanksgiving) and our ceremony was at 4pm. By the time we got out of the church is was already dark outside. We went straight to the RH and did all of our photo's there.

Re: Question for October & November brides
by the we got out of the church, it was dark out so we took all our pics indoors at the Woodlands, but I think they came out great! I was a little bummed that it got dark at 4:30 that day, but what can you do? We got tons ouf great outdoor shots of me and the bridesmaids before we left for the church, and we got some nice nighttime shots of me and DH outside of the RH throughout the night.
Like you said, you'll have amazing pictures if you just allow yourself to relax and enjoy the day, regardless of where you're taking your pictures. It's not worth stressing over!

westbury gardens!! it is gorgeous!!! just make sure you schedule a time when there is still enough day light. i had to cancel my appointment when i realized day light savings was over and our pics would be in the dark! ended up taking pics at the hall but not the outdoor 'fall' pics i was hoping for.

Gotta agree with my date twin on this!
Because it was already dark and very cold on our wedding day, they allowed us to take pictures inside the mansion. I have lots in my review if you want to take a look: link to my review
