so i was talking to one of my students from last year on AOL IM tonight and she was asking to come to the wedding ceremony. i'm not teaching at that school anymore, so i thought it was really sweet that she would want to come to my special day. nd it really means a lot to me that i made that kind of an impact on her life only knowing her for one year... i'm thinking that it would be ok to have some students (a very very few) at the ceremony. how have you handled this situation? thanks

Re: question for teachers....
ok - i was just wondering if it would be inappropriate to have students there...but i guess it makes sense. this girl is so cute - she already has the dress picked out that she wants to wear...sent me a picture of it and everything!! the only problem is that i teach in nassau and the wedding is in suffolk...so i don't know how thrilled these kids parents are going ot be to drive them to my wedding for a 1/2 hour!!

Re: question for teachers....
My whole class and some kids from last year have already said they are coming to the ceremony. My kids are just as excited about my wedding as I am. They are already practicing my new name. I hope to get a picture with them all outside the church!!

i guess it's a good thing if your students think that much of you that they want to be there at your wedding, right?

Re: question for teachers....
Lori wait this year I had 2 students calling me in the hallway one by my married name and one by my maiden- I didn't even know where to look.
I constantly slip and call myself my maiden name because I am used to saying Señorita ***** and not Señora *****
It is so weird to hear yourself being called both

Re: question for teachers....
My students ask ALL the time if they can come to the ceremony, and personally, I don't see anything wrong with it. But then again, I work in a very small, private school. So I don't know

Re: question for teachers....
ok...here's the next question...what if your ceremony is at the same place as the reception? the reception is immediately following the ceremony...will that make it uncomfortable?

I think its great if they come to the ceremony... How DO you handle the people that are coming to the ceremony only when the reception is immediately following in the next room? Good Question! Do you say 'Thanks for coming, see you soon.' at the recieving line?

Re: question for teachers....
Many of my 7th graders have already asked for directions to the church. I was really touched. It speaks greatly of the impact you had on them! Go for it!

Re: question for teachers....
That was my problem too, Lori, that and the hall is about an hour from school. So I knew their parents wouldn't want to drive them so I let it go and just told the kids that I was getting married far away.
If you are getting married there, think about how the kids would get there and I might give the hall a heads up since there is going to be a little rush of people that they would not be expecting at that time.

Re: question for teachers....
I tried to tell this girl last night that the ceremony will be about an hour away from where she lives...but she insisted on going!
She wants to go with a friend of her's, who was also my student, and who actually was very close to me last year. I would be so happy to have them there...I'm just worried that at the end of the ceremony it would be rude of me to say...ok, see ya later! I'm going to go party!!
But then again, my photographer is the father of two of my former students (twins), so his daughters might be there as well to help him out....

Re: question for teachers....
My students are starting to ask to come to the wedding. My ceremony is 50 miles away from the school district. I guess if the parents are willing to drive them there. Very good question palebride.

I am getting married very soon and my kids want to come to the ceremony. I think it would be an honor to have my kids there. Some of the parents who I have gotten to know very well want to come. My friend got married and her class came. It was so cute!
