Question for Teachers

In today's paper, there's another ad for the BOCES Teacher Fair for 'minority and ethnically diverse' candidates?
I remember last year I called up BOCES and asked them what exactly did they mean by 'ethnically diverse?' I told them I considered myself to be ethnically diverse as I wasn't born in this country and had a very mixed heritage. SHe flat out said to me 'Are you Caucasian?' and when I said 'yes' she said 'We're not looking for you'

WHat is the story with that? I still don't understand how they can get away with that?
WHat if a fair for Caucasian candidates was announced?

I've seen those ads before. And I can't believe that woman said that. I can understand that they are seeking a more diverse group of employees, but telling you that you can't attend because you're Caucasian just seems wrong to me.

When I mentioned to a friend last year about maybe going anyway, she said not to bother! She said that she had gone a few years before that and you stand on line at tables at people were literally being picked who were behind her on line for the color of their skin!
