question for teachers

if a child has an incomplete assingment, but brings in a note from the parent stating: i'm sorry, i'm the one who mismanaged our time....

would you hold the kid as responsible as if he just turned in an incomplete assingment without the note??

thanks

Re: question for teachers

I'm not a teacher, but I would still hold the child responsible. The child needs to learn about deadlines and if the parent bails them out now then chances are they will bail them out in the future. I guess it also depends on age. What grade are we talking about?

the funny thing is.... it is my fault. i ran around doing christmas stuff, and he kept asking to do his project.

he's in the fifth grade.

the project is done, it's just that the 'decoration' on it, was incomplete.

i'm just feeling bad right now... i feel like i'm the worst mother in the world, which makes me mad at myself

It does depend on the grade. Is this the first time this has happened? I would write a note home stating that the student has to bring in the completed homework the next day. I used to have a rubric system. Turning in the homework on time and perfect got a 4. In cases like this i would remind the parent that the student will now receive a 3. In the future, a 2 will be given for assignments not turned in on time.

I dont hold the child responsible, i tech third though. if your talking 9th grade and you gave plenty of time for the thing to be turned in, its the kids fault. Today i had a lot of kids not bring in the assignemnt so i rewarded the kids that did, its only fair

I hold my 3rd graders responsible, but a note from a parent always help....If things are crazy after school, maybe he could wake up a half hour earlier to get things done.
