Question for the psychologists on the boards

My neighbor is a 'modern analyst'. Her daughter is a classic analyst.

What is the difference between the two?

TIA

Both believe in nonsense IMO. There is no real research to back up their theories. A classic psychoanalyst follows Freud's writings more closely.

If you want a psychologist you should look for one who follows a cognitive behavioral approach.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering because they both argue with each other all the time.

There is various research that supports psychoanalaysis... whether it's convincing, well, that's a different story.

I think the bottom line with looking at the school of thought of a psychologist depends upon what you need the psychologist for... some work better for certain things than others.

wow...i didn't know there was anyone who followed Frued anymore!!! I thought they were all neo-Freudians...I would seriously question a old school Frued supporter...granted he did a lot for the field...but I just can't buy it...maybe Jung...but not Freud

Mo, that sounds funny I can picture them looking like Frasier and Lilith arguing with each other.
