Question for the teachers...and anyone else that might have any suggestions??

I am a certified teacher but I stay home with my 3 year old son right now. I am not working. He goes to nursery school three days a week for about 5 to 6 hours.

I am sooooo bored!! I need to do something!!

I have tried subbing but I really don't like just going into a classroom and handing out dittos that the teacher leaves for me.

I was thinking about tutoring and then I thought about tutoring kids that are sick and in the hospital for long periods of time.

Does anyone know anything about this and how I can look into it?

Do tutor centers like Huntington Learning Center or Sylvan service kids that are in the hospital or does the hospital handle that directly?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

I believe those tutors come from the school district. I would contact the district you would like to work for.

my impression is that kids who are sick are on a 'home-schooling' plan...

not to say that there parents teach them, but that teachers go to the home...

and the district arranges the teachers...the classroom teacher gives the topics of what needs to be done and the home teacher carries it out

you may want to call some districts and ask them

If you live in LI then call your local school district. A friend of mine did this this for a few years. She tutored high school kids that were on long term suspensions or had long term illnesses. Not many people want to do it, so I do think it is a lucrative job! Good luck and keep us posted!

Sylvan and Huntington do not do home schooling and pay an obnoxious $8-10 per hr(I akready looked into this at Huntington)

I know Islip Tutoring Center does 98% home schooling for medical or suspensions so you may want to look into enlisting with them. They are hooked up with a # of Districts.
