Question for those Ladies already on the Pill... preparation for the Big Day

Original post by Xelindrya

After all my careful checking (ok not so careful as I thought) it seems I MAY end up with my period right smack during my big day. Well actually ENDING on my big day but still.

So I went to the OBGYN this morning (annual check up) and she says 'no worries, just remmber that month to just skip the green pills and start on your new pack right away.'

Anyone else getting this advice?

Can anyone tell me how this actually works? I have never taken any of these pills and I am considering b/c my period will land around my wedding date

Im a Pill Pusher.
Patches are sticky and I've seen people have skin reactions to them..

Pill is just more reliable in my mind.. maybe im old fashioned.. but you better go see a doctor and get started. Always takes about a month or two for your system to level off.

Ive been on mine since 1993 so my system is VERY used to it's dosage.

heh

I tried to skip it a few times and it never worked for me, so when I was planning the wedding I actually printed out a calendar and figured out when was that time of the month and just didnt plan my wedding then.

If the pill you're on is triphasic, then you have more chance of having problems skipping the placebo pills. It has different amounts of hormones in three of the pills. Monophasic pills are supposed to be okay to do this with.

I purposely altered mine actually because I got it on the 4-day weekends for Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. It really pissed me off, and I saw it was going to happen again this year. I would always get it on New Year's for three years straight, but last year I accidentally lost one of the blue pills a couple times in the whole year and had to take for next day, so it made it come earlier. So I kind of learned that on accident. Now I'm going to get my period the day or two after I come back from honeymoon, and I'll be fine. Mine's all taken care of.

Ive been on the same stuff for over 10 years! I really can't remember.. but here was my thought process about it. A) its all in your mind.. B) dont you feel bloated beforehand anyway, can't be worse than that, unless Im using it as an excuse to eat more crap C) Id rather gain a few pounds than gain a kid!!

hehe.. most still applies.
I dont really break out much but I always had skin problems so I cant say its gotten better or worse.

I was always a very light build till I moved to NYC! so no real wieght gains either.

Everyone is different. I tried another one.. d-something... and it made me moody.

Ask the doctor.. Good Luck

I personally wouldn't recommend the patch...particularly for those who are sensitives to hormones. I could only make it through the first 2 days but became so nauseous I ripped the sucker off!!

I had done this before and like Donna I also had the breakthough bleeding, but it was more like staining than bleeding. I would recommend trying it the month before to see how your bodies react and then do it the following month

I tried skipping the placebo week and starting the new pack that week...I had bleeding for 2 weeks and major cramps. I am on ortho and heard that birth control pills with constant hormones throughout the month work better when skipping the placebo week. You could alter your cycle by stopping sometime during the last week and letting your body get your period and then start the new pack.

I have done this before, which keeps the period away. Orthocyclen is what I have taken for a while. It works but my GYN said that even if I do that my period still may come because of stress of wedding planning.
