If you met with a vendor (anyone other than photographer) that you really clicked with, but their price quote was between $100-$500 over your budget for that vendor, would you book anyway, or keep looking to find someone else you clicked with?

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
It honestly depends on who the vendor is. If it's a DJ - I say throw the bucks in and book them. If it's a Hair/MU - I'm sure you can find it cheaper....

Again it would depend on who the vendor is. We went way over budget on DJ and my dress , but I thought those two things were ok to spend the extra loot on!!

it all depends on the vendor that it was...If I felt I could get it cheaper, I would still shop around!

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
I guess it depends. I'd probably book them if I've looked around already and didn't feel as comfortable. But, if they are way overpriced then no, I would keep looking. I know you said any vendor other than photographer but I met with one that I really liked but just can't swing the prices she was quoting.

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
I believe it depends on the vendor/service and it depends on what's important to you.
I was ready to go with a video guy for $1200. But my FH wasn't 100% in love with the work. We met with someone else in the meantime, and we ended up spending $400 more on a better and tighter product (hopefully!). So far, I'm glad we decided to go a bit more.
Invites: FH would have gone the cheaper route. We budgeted $500 but I wanted something that was much more. So I babysat to make the extra cash because it meant that much to me. Now, I have it and can have the invites.
My DJ: A tiny bit more than we wanted to spend, but we really clicked with him and the right DJ can make the party. But we didn't go with my first choice, a band, because of the high cost. We settled with a Sinatra Singer.
Here's the flip: My tiara. My mom was buying for me and I found one for $200 bucks. Then I found Thomas Knoell. Though I loved them, it made me like the $200 just as much (at least on the website) and I went with the cheaper one. I just hope I like it.
So, in the end, I think it depends on what is important to you and if you think your day won't be the same without them.

It depends on what it is for me, and if I can cut corners elsewhere.

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
depending on how many other vendors I met with before or after this over my budget vendor.
If I was at the end of my rope, I would just eat Ramen for a month and go over the budget. I hate calling around and making meetings, and etc etc etc.

It depends on how important it it. I gladly cut back on favors and don't have a lot of extras like programs, petal cones, etc for the things that were more important to me, like my hair.

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
Okay, there are actually two vendors I'm having this problem with. In one case I have met with 7 different vendors, and the one I really really love, just gave me a price quote $500 over what I want to spend for flowers. I do have two more appointments set up, and even if this particular florist had come in exactly on budget I would have met with them. (all the florists I've met with thus far are at least $100 over what I want to spend).
The other vendor is only over budget by @ $100, and I'm sure in soda bottle returns I can make that up.
The problem I have with going over with anything is that we didn't originally budget for video, and now we are scrambling to come up with the $$ for it, by reducing the budget for different things.

Can you make a cut to another area?
If it is a 100, go for it, but 500 is harder to cover

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
with florists it depends....are ALL the florists coming in around the same and you just didn't realize the cost of what you wanted when you set the budget...OR is there another that can give you what you want closer to what you wanted to spend. definitely keep looking in that dept. to make sure.
as far as the other stuff, it's completely your call. ultimately $100 doesn't seem like a lot, but I definitely know who it is to rob Peter to pay Paul.
good luck.

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
don't ask me how, because I am the worlds worst negotiator. But I know people negotiate after getting the 1st quote.
So if you got an initial quote $500 above what you wanted to spend - and haven't gone back and tried to negotiate it.. then I would try. What is the worst that could happen? Go back and tell them you really love their work and would love to leave a deposit, but the quote comes in a bit over your budget. Is there anyway they can work on the grand total with you? Ask if they are willing to meet you half way on the $500.

With the florists, two of them came in $500 over budget, all the others came in $100 over budget. All but one florist used almost all the same flowers for the CP, and all the bo-k and bout were the same flowers. (IE: CP w/ gerber daisies, and hydrangea were included in all but 1 CP). Of the two that are $500 over budget, one I really clicked with, and the other I didn't. Hence, the problem. I really liked the one florist more than any of the others I went to. I am kind of resigned to spending $100 over budget at this point b/c that is what I am being quoted, it's that extra $400 that is getting to me now.

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget
it depends on who the vendor is. the only vendor I went WAY over budget for is my photog because I really wanted him and I knew he wasn't in my budget. He gave me a HUGE break since he is friends with my boss and we work very well together. But, even though he is basically doing me a favor, I am still 1K over budget on the photog.
