Question for Those Sticking to a Budget

Original post by October Bliss

If you met with a vendor (anyone other than photographer) that you really clicked with, but their price quote was between $100-$500 over your budget for that vendor, would you book anyway, or keep looking to find someone else you clicked with?

If you are in love with the vendor that is a little over - budget around it....

ie.. I spent way more than I wanted on a DJ, so I cut back on invitations and flowers because in my opinion they weren't as important to me...

with florists it depends....are ALL the florists coming in around the same and you just didn't realize the cost of what you wanted when you set the budget...OR is there another that can give you what you want closer to what you wanted to spend. definitely keep looking in that dept. to make sure.

as far as the other stuff, it's completely your call. ultimately $100 doesn't seem like a lot, but I definitely know who it is to rob Peter to pay Paul.

good luck.

With the florists, two of them came in $500 over budget, all the others came in $100 over budget. All but one florist used almost all the same flowers for the CP, and all the bo-k and bout were the same flowers. (IE: CP w/ gerber daisies, and hydrangea were included in all but 1 CP). Of the two that are $500 over budget, one I really clicked with, and the other I didn't. Hence, the problem. I really liked the one florist more than any of the others I went to. I am kind of resigned to spending $100 over budget at this point b/c that is what I am being quoted, it's that extra $400 that is getting to me now.

so, that begs the question...what about the one florist made you 'click' with them more than the other...

with a florist, you dont' really spend that much time with them so as long as they can re-create your vision the way you want them to...personality doesn't come into play as much as say a DJ or a photog, or even hair and m/u who have more direct dealing with you, especially day of...jmo..

It honestly depends on who the vendor is. If it's a DJ - I say throw the bucks in and book them. If it's a Hair/MU - I'm sure you can find it cheaper....

I agree with Christine.

The one florist listened to what I had to say about colors, and design ideas and then ran with it. She came up with creative ways to make it special, and incorporate silver into it (which apparantly is not easy), and just generally displayed a love for her work that I thought would come thru in the final product that I found lacking with almost all the others. Not to say that the others showed me pictures of their work that was poor - all the work I saw appeared to be good quality. But I got the impression that each floral arrangement she does, she views as an individual personal expression of what a bride is looking for, and that even if she has done a high or low CP 500 times before, each one for each individual wedding will be given the attention of someone creating a CP for the 1st time and wanting to make a lasting (and good impression).

Does that make sense? I seem to all of a sudden be having a hard time articulating.

don't worry doll...you're an attorney through and through. you got your point across....

if you don't mind, could you fm who you saw and who was your fav. it would help me get a better idea, based on what I've read on the boards. I do understand what your saying, but perhaps there are others with a love of what they do for less $$.

It absolutely depends on the vendor and how important that particular facet is. For photography, DJ, my dress, our rings, HM, and the RH I'd suck it up and pay the extra $$. But I think everything else I'd go elsewhere. I'd love to live it up but when reality hits sometimes we need to settle.

i would keep them 'on hold', shop around & try to find someone else. if i couldn't find someone else i'd try to renegotiate with them. if they wouldn't budge and i really wanted them, i would have to go back to my budget & see what i could cut.

budgets suck

Completely agree! Also, if the hall throws anything in- cake, CP, etc I'd go with the free stuff and spend that money elsewhere.

It depends on who the vendor is. Is you want it and could cut somewhere else then maybe.

We're having this problem right now....we're torn between 2 florists. They're both reputable but one does only one wedding a day so of course he's going to be more $. We're going to try and see if he can meet us half way because he's 1K more than the others....

Re: Question for Those Sticking to a Budget

Can you get something out of your flowers (ie simpler centerpieces, more fillers?) so that you get the vendor you want but within your budget?

I think that how you feel about a vendor is as important as their work. If you 'click' with them, then go with them.
