Question for those who live on LI and work in NYC

How much does the LIRR run you a year????????

Thinking of looking for a new job!

my train ticket is about $250 a month ($3000 for the year) Plus $80 a month for subway ($960 for the year) for a grand total of $3,960!!! then times it by 2...for me and the hubby!! $7,920!!
We are in Zone 10...each Zone is a different price

If you got to www.lirr.org you can look up the fares for all the LIRR zones on LI. The monthly tickets are the most economical. Some companies offer transit check which is a way of paying for a portion of your commute pre-tax. Mail & Ride gives you a 2% discount.

You will also need to consider if you will need to commute from Penn station - if so, this will increase your costs (I believe Mail & Ride offers a discount for the metro cards as well - I am not sure).


For Example my monthly ticket is $146 per month. I Mail & Ride so I am charged $143.08. I get $100 a month from my job through mail and ride - but the deduction from my pay check is only $60 because of the tax benefit. So my real cost is $113.08 per month. I walk to and from the train stations so I don't have additional expenses.

I am so depressed! I love my job, and don't want to leave. But I hate my BOSS! He is driving me crazy and pissing me off! I don't know how much longer I can tolerate it!B

my bil pays over $250/month for IRR....he also takes the subway but I do not know how much that is

i actually try not to add it all up!!! its $$$ you can look it uo right onthe site if you want...ti depedns on what zone you live!!

I am in zone 3 and pay $203 for LIRR and unlimited subway. However I get $100 in transit checks which is taken out of my pay check before taxes so I save a bit there.

Really depends on which zone you are in.
