question for you

question for you

So FH and I have really started discussing where we are going to live. We want to be in Suffolk county but near a train station that runs fairly frequently.

Some areas we are discussing are Centereach,Ronkonkoma, Lake Grove, Deer Park, N. Babylon, W.Babylon etc.

Any tips/ideas?

I am in Islip - and the train station is very close to my home - it's not a major hub like ronkonkoma - but it's on the babylon line....it has a lovely quaint town - and lots of affordable houses - plus it's seconds away from the fire island ferries!!!! HTH

We're in W. Babylon.

It's nice here. Train/Village very close by. Neighborhood is great and home prices are reasonable.

I love the idea of being close the ferries! What I'm worried about it being a smaller train line is that Fh will have to travel weird hours.

Also, we are renting right now not buying if that makes a difference.

Re: question for you

there are so many communities in my area - rentals and co-ops too - i purchased in my community - there are soooo many available to purchase - cheap too! - i can't even tell you - so close to montauk highway - we are not so far from CI train station either - like 15 min.....that's a major station....

Re: question for you

does your FH work in the city? or one of the stops along the way through long island?

i live in huntington/east northport and when i was working in the city i was taking the train from either greenlawn or huntington which was a breeze. some of the huntington trains are express and you can get to penn station in like 56 minutes.

i used to live in deer park and it was about the same, but i like huntington better because it really is just a straight run to a major station.

Re: question for you

Well we just moved to N. Babylon on Saturday and with this whole fire next door to our apartment thing, I've only commuted once out of Babylon.

The ride is really a breeze - the train I take in the morning was an express so it was really quick. Lots of express trains in the evening too.

Only thing I do not like about Babylon is the parking situation b/c there isn't any!!!!! Thanks to Lizzie, she offered for me to park in front of her condo until I figure something else out. But as of right now since we are not village residents there is like NO place for me to park my car w/out having to pay a cr@p ton of money.

Other then that we LOVE the area - plenty of stuff around us. Granted we are still learning and now we aren't there but hoping to be back again soon lol.

Re: question for you

Did you try taking deer park? The station is a little further but there is always tons of parking.

I travel into the city daily for work...something to keep in mind the further out you travel the higher your railway ticket it and its a long commute...I know Babylon does have a lot of trains though because my coworker is on that line.

Re: question for you

FH was living in Ronkonkoma while we were dating. i own a condo in Long Beach and so he moved in with me after we got engaged and his lease was up. We both work in Manhattan and the commute every day to and from Ronkonkoma killed him AND he used to take it slightly off hours so he didn't catch the crazy rush hour and still hated it. just FYI....

Re: question for you

if you are renting and can get one of the apartments close to babylon its a great area. Great main street and great train line.

However if you don't live close enough to walk the station is horrible to park at unless you need to take a really early train.

Ronkonkoma line is great but a little long.

Deer Park always has parking and is about an hour commute.

Lindenhurst!!!!!

Train is right there plently of parking and I dont beleive you have to be a resident because I know in Copiague you can just park as well. And there are plently of places for rent!

Re: question for you

I grew up in babylon village then moved to west babylon I still love those towns. Im now in lindenhurst village which is still nice. The train station is very close to all and babylon has express trains a couple of times a day which pass by lindenhurst. but still not a bad trip to the city on either the local or express.

Re: question for you

Are there any areas in babylon to avoid? I get confused with the north east west areas. Not sure if they're all part of the same school district. Also if you live in islip can you park in babylon?
