Question, is this silly to do? I'M HOME...UPDATED!!

I am not getting married for another...594 days! I know other '06 gals have bought dresses. I am not quite ready to BUY yet, but I want to go try on stuff, and see what styles I like and what looks good on me.

I was thinking of going to David's Bridal tonight just to try on stuff. Is this silly to do?

I am not sure if I will buy from there, and I am not really going to go 'seriously' looking until April (when my mom is here)?

Thanks!

-Jill

That's not silly at all. You can try on dresses whenever you want. I never went to David's Bridal so I'm not sure if they'll ask you your date. I would go and see what you like. Let us know how it goes

I dont think thats silly at all!!! Better to shop around and get what you really want rather than settle because you have not much time left!

I think it's good to just get an idea of what looks good on (within your budget).

The only thing you should look out for is if you do wind up finding 'the one', check when it would be discontinued. Otherwise, HAVE FUN!

not silly at all, I am six months away and I still do not havea dress nothing has catch my eye yet.
Asfor Davids Bridals hmm is ok bad thing is that sometimes they do not have the size that you want either too big or too small but the staff in the nassau store were very very nice

I'm getting married a month or so before you , and I'm toying with the same idea. Just trying on to narrow down the way I envision the day - strapless, thin straps, full sleeves - I don't know!!!
The only thing keeping me from trying anything on yet is the fact that I'd like to lose some weight - just so I can really enjoy the experience.
So - not silly at all!!! Good luck!

Nope, I don't think its silly at all, it will give you a chance to see what styles you like and it will be fun too!!

I think it's a great idea.... Mind you I did that the other week and found the dress I wanted. Also found out it will be discontinued, so I ordered it

FYI, I went to at least 10 different salons and they will NOT let you take photos unless you buy the dress.

It is far from crazy to just go try things on....I had no intentions of buying my dress when i did...It just happened to be a dress I fell in love with....

a little tip of advice though, try on everything, even if it doesn't looke like you would really like it on the hanger....The dress I ended up ordering was one that I would have never tried on if the saleswoman didn't say to just try it!

No not at all. It's better not to be under pressure.

Its not silly at all. Bri and I got engaged on July 16, 2002. We booked almost everything by the summer of 2003. Not including a vendor we had to rid ourselves of, and re book a new one this year. If I'm not mistaken she got her dress last year. I'm not sure because I'm not allowed to see it . We're just sitting back waiting for the day to come. We have some minor stuff to do like pick out tuxedos, invitations. But not much left to do. Get as much as you can done early so you won't stress later on.

This is the ONLY reason I think it's silly to go now. I want to lose weight too. Where now I may have to get a plus size gown (I am teetering on plus size), I am hoping not to HAVE to get a plus size after losing weight. Also, after I drop some weight, what looks good now may not look good later and vice versa!

I dont think its too early and Davids is a great place to try on all different styles and see what you like the most. Have fun!!!

go for it.
I know folks who try on dresses and arent even ENGAGED!!! or DATING! Also know a few brides who still try on dresses after buying one just to have fun

Enjoy yourself.

The date thing: Lie, who cares? Just say June and let them assume next year. or give no date at all or the real date. Doesnt really matter. GOOD bridal shops should treat you well no matter what the date is!

Re: Question, is this silly to do? I'M HOME...UPDATED!!

Okay, so I am home from David's Bridal. It was not bad, but not great, it was...okay. At first I was not impressed w/ the service b/c the girl left me alone (knowing I had NEVER tried on a bridal gown) in the dressing room with a strapless bra that seemed to have 80 hooks and a slip that alone seemed big enough for Ms. Scarlette O'Hara! She did come back, and then was gracious enough to do the '80' hooks and finish zipping the slip.

I only really saw 2 dresses there I liked, and I tried them on. The first was an off the shoulder, heavily beaded top and a beaded organza skirt. Nice. Didn't zip close, so no real idea on how it looks, but I knew right then, this wasn't the one, and I have ruled out the Off the Shoulder dresses.

Second was a beaded spagetti strap, kind of basket weave style beading bodice, not as 'busy' as the first one, and MUCH more flattering to my figure.

Overall, it was an okay time. The biggest challenge for me was trying to handle the size of these dresses. I know on avg 'dress' sizes run smaller than regular street clothes. Mind you, I am teatering on a plus size, so when these 16W dresses did not fit, I was depressed.

Needless to say I am joining Weight Watchers (had planned on it before the dresses) and Curves (gym) thise weekend. I need to get me *ss in gear.

Thanks for listening!!

-Jill
