Re: Question of the Day...
Wow, I don't think people have really any misconceptions about me. I am nice and sweet. I am strongwilled at times. A few people might think I am a bit of snob.
I think FH's SIL might think that way because I have my ideas that I love for the wedding and I feel that she wants to get involved in our wedding a little too much. We have had to deal with a couple of situations because of that. We now can't say too much to her about the wedding. It's hard because I wanted be close SIL's. When we went to The Cheesecake Factory after the flower girls and Jr. Bridesmaids ordered their dresses she said to me that we need to get along. I said uh huh. I will get along with her when she applogizes to me. I do talk to her when she talks to me but we are not close. I am sorry for the long post. I guess I needed to vent a little.

Re: Question of the Day...
People generally think I'm a ***** when they first see me.. then they get to know me and think I'm really nice and can't be mean.. which I don't mind because I rarely ever get mad or nasty with people. But the worst is when I tell people I have horses and they think I'm rich.. but I'm not.. my mom rescues horses that are about to be put down.

Re: Question of the Day...
I get the dumb blonde thing a lot b/c I have a very bubbly personality. People are definitely surprised when I tell them I'm an attorney. Sometimes people are actually rude about it. 'YOU'RE a lawyer?!?' Yes. I'm actually rather intelligent. I mean, like, I got all the way through law school and everything. It was, like, totally awesome!
Oh and the other misconception is that I make a lot of money b/c of my profession. Little do they know I call my paycheck my bi-weekly insult. LOL

People think I'm a food brat & can only eat the best of the best when it comes to food....lol I kid you not!
When in reality...I'm not being a brat about it....I am just a horrible picky eater....I don't like seafood, I don't like mooshy food (pudding...cake filling...cheesecake..etc..I have a texture problem which leads to a bad gag reflex lol) & I don't like lamb/ham (weird texture) & most thick steaks...I don't want to be this way & I try to force myself to try new things but it doesn't work
& I HATE when people to tell me to smile more....I LOVE to smile...but I feel like half the time it's at work & they always say it at the most ridiculous time...like when I'm in the middle of trying to get a report out, staring at my computer screen or in the middle of a meeting....'ya know, you should smile more, it lightens up your face'...Ummmmm Would like me to sit at my desk and smile at my computer??? You'd all think I was freak if I did that all damn day lol

Re: Question of the Day...
That I am a bridezilla or a 'JAP' (hate that term and I do not mean to offend anyone, I think it's a sh**y A** term in itself) . I have been very calm through out this entire process of our wedding planning (TWO LONG YEARS) . Nothing really upsets me, I do not request /demand anything to be done for me and I laugh at half the things girls get upset about on here. (jmo) I am friends w some other brides too and I think some things they get so upset about are silly and the things they demand on people are a bit nutty and rude. But to each their own. I also am a girl who loves VINTAGE clothes... Yup most of my clothes come from other peoples closets ... So I doubt the idiotic, completely rude term applies to me at all. Silly misconceptions...

People always tell me the same tricia, youre so mature for your age sometimes you need to just kick back and stop being so serious. Whatever they say...i know how to have fun, its just that my definition of fun is very different than their definition i guess!
OMG I hate when people tell me to not be too serious!! Bc I'm mature for my age. Who said I was?! I'm a goofball half the time ... 'Have fun your only 23..' ...I AM having fun!

the biggest, eh?
Well, something that honestly bothers me is that when I meet someone and they find out that FH is going to be a doctor, they think (and have flat out said) oh so that's why you're marrying him...
How rude! It drives me nuts. I met and fell in love and knew that he was the one before he even got into med school...
I've learned to joke about it or just say I'm a lucky girl - let them interpret that anywhich way... He knows why I'm marrying him.
I get that a lot too...
Or whenever I'm like 'oh things have been stressful and we have a lot going on' they are like 'oh it's OK- just think- you are marrying A DOCTOR!!!!' umm, first he is not a Doctor yet and second, that is not the end all to end all, ya know?
My close girlfriends have said that before-- and it's totally different when they say it because they are close with me and they are just being silly and joking-- I mean it more when people I don't really know or strangers say it to me.
And they also think that is WHY I'm with him which is ridiculous-- Vinny is wonderful, attractive, sweet, funny and a million other things--- and when I met him-- HA! He was WASHING CARS for a living and working off of tips- he saved for my ring with TIP money from the car wash!
So, that's the glamorous truth
Wait, so he got into med school?? Last I read he was going to apply... what school?
oh no... he is just taking the kaplan course now (he is ALMOST done) and he just finished his second to last undergrad class-- wooo hooo! he will be taking the last one in july (accelerated) and then he will be DONE and ready to take the M-CATS which is in mid-August for him.
that's so funny that your FH was teaching it-- is he still? Vinny is going to one tonight! but he has a female teacher I think.
but that's so funny!
No, he had to stop once he started med school. Well good luck it is an arduous process and not everyone gets in right away, and it shouldn't discourage him if that happens. FH didnt' get in the first time he applied but once he did he busted his heinie to get the best grades he could -- now he's #2 in his class and going to Harvard for residency --- gee, can you tell I'm proud of him?!haha

ohmigod, you get that too? So, there are several misconceptions I must endure.... depends upon the environment.
10 years ago, when I was a lab tech in the mysoginistic medical school, I got 'why don't you smile... you look so much prettier that way' (translation: don't you realize you're primary function is to look pretty for us?) My response was 'I don't smile while walking down the hallway becuase I'm not MANIC!'
Now professionally, faculty will presume I just fell into my job and didn't earn it. They cut me off, and think I have nothing to contribute UNTIL I force myself into a discussion, and then they realize I actually AM a peer, not a subordinate. I had to uninvitedly FORCE myself into every career-building situation I attained.
Socially, people either think I'm a ditz who cannot even count change, or an academic/social elitest... the latter usually being attributed to my friends introducing me as 'professor portjeff' or an 'amazing cook' an interesting dichotomy, huh?

Re: Question of the Day...
one is that I am younger than i am (which is good most times) but I get the feeling that professionally there are some people who therefore view me off the bat as less experienced when in reality I have 20 years experience in my field....
also that I am out going and an extrovert (this is only at work) in reality I am very very shy....

Re: Question of the Day...
I hate all assumptions that are made about me based on my age. People assume that because I'm young (19) I don't know anything. I do not look or act my age at all, and most people will not guess my real age until I tell them. Once they know, I've found a lot of people start treating me differently.

Me too
Also, that because I'm a girl I cannot do my job ( I am in a male dominaed field) So I rarely if ever call for backup, because they assume I don't want to or can't do the job. And the few times I have, most of them are already 'helping' someone else.
