Question on addressing envelopes???

Should the outside read: Mr & Mrs SMith or Mr & Mrs Raymond Smith.

Inside then: Raymond and Rosemary

Re: Question on addressing envelopes???

I think it's just a matter of preference... if I knew both of the couple's names, then I put 'Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Elizabeth Jones' on the outside, and then 'Mike & Liz' on the inside. If I only knew one of their names (like with my co-workers), I put 'Mr. Jones' on the outside, and 'Mr. and Mrs. Jones' on the inside, so that the person I was inviting knew that they could bring their husband or wife.

I don't really think there's a wrong way to do these... it all depends on what you like! They only throw out the envelopes anyway (More money down the toilet!!)

The outside should read

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

The inside can read:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
or
John and Jane

Remember if someone is a doctor, the inside envelope should read (if the man is a doctor)

Doctor and Mrs. Smith

The outside envelope can be Dr. and Mrs. John Smith

Re: Question on addressing envelopes???

IMHO, I think Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith is offensive to the wife. She has a name too. I think its silly that you put the husband's first name and not the wife's first name. If I got an invite addressed that way, I'd be offended. I know that years ago, women were known as Mrs. Raymond Smith, but hello? Feminist movement? We are individuals and do not become invisible when we get married. Marriage should be about being equal, not the wife being absorbed by the husband.

Ok, sorry to vent. FH and I just did our invites so this is fresh in my mind. Geesh, hope I didn't sound mean. At any rate, we did Mr. and Mrs. Smith on our outer envelopes, Raymond and Rosemary on inner envelopes.

Edited to say: Actually our inner envelopes were as we addressed the people in real life. So the inner envelope for my grandma said simply 'Grandma'.
