If I have a flat invitation (no bows or anything) should I still hand cancel my invites? Thanks!

Its up to you but I usually do. It looks less messy to me.

Re: Question on hand canceling
I would.... it doesn't really matter if the invitation is flat or not. Hand canceling means they don't put those ugly black marks and bar codes all over the envelope. The envelope arrives looking the same way it did when you brought it to the post office.

Re: Question on hand canceling
if you hand cancel. do they still run it through the machine for zip code sorting? i would assume so, but i heard that if you hand cancel then they don't run it through the machine.

Re: Question on hand canceling
Instead of running it through the machine, they stamp it by hand so it won't get messed up. I would do this absolutely if we had a more ornate invitation, but ours is pretty plain so I'm not sure. When I buy my stamps maybe I'll ask thepost office

you know the bar code thingy across the stamp? normally a machine stamps these, but you can opt to do it yourself. the PO will provide you w/ a hand held device and you can stamp the invites yourself. it's basically to ensure that the invites do not get damaged when they run through the machine for cancelling.
make sense? not a great explanation, but i am sure you get the idea.

Yes, they do go through a machine for the zip code even though you hand cancel. My dad is a mailman, I asked him.

Re: Question on hand canceling
If you can - do it!
Because I sent out mine on Tuesday and they came out HORRIBLE with BIG BLACK LINES through the names - like someone ran them over with a car. I tried to get them hand-cancelled but the post office I used doesn't do it.
