Question on late deliveries

Question on late deliveries

I am just looking for opinions on this. I was due Dec 4 and still no sign of labor. The baby is estimated to already be about 8.5 -9 lbs...

How long would you think is 'normal' to wait before considering induction? 10 days, 14 days?

Did anyone just know that today was the day they would go into labor? I wish I had a clue that something was going to happen....

I am still at work to keep busy, but I am paranoid about my water breaking while Im here. Did this happen to anyone? and is it manageable?

Thanks for any feedback! I am so anxious!!!

Re: Question on late deliveries

Personally I would not induce if you and the baby are doing just fine for atleast a full 14 days....due dates are estimates- not dates that the baby knows about. I would also read A LOT about inductions...A Thinking Women's Guide to a Better Birth is a great book for you to refer to. There are many ways to induce...some safer than others...some increase your risk of a c/s more than others.

Re: Question on late deliveries

I never went into labor and because of babys ESTIMATED weight (over 10 lbs) they scheduled a c-section for my 2 week late mark allowing him time to come out but he never did so I cant offer any advice about going into labor. But my doctors STRESSED their estimate is exactly THAT, an estimate. One DR told me that in his experience, 1 out of 10 is close or over but most are UNDER their estimated weight. I was lucky enough to be that 1, my son was 13 oz over what they thought! So you'll probably under what they are estimating! And as for inducing, it does highly increase your risk of c-section and my DRS advised against it and would only do if medically necessary. I would definately read up on it. It's safe to allow baby time those extra 14 days to come out as your due date is only an estimate. Good luck to you.
