How did you girls/FH's that smoked kick the habit? I'm trying to help FH out and I know there is some 1-800 # that gives you stuff, I think patches for free. But, what ever info/advice you can give me would be great!!!! Thanks

Re: Question on quiting smoking
you're going to kick me for this because it's not very helpful but I went cold turkey. and I did it while I was living in London, where EVERYONE smoked. What worked for me was cadbury bars (yes, I gained 20 pounds fairly quickly) and keeping my hands busy with rubberbands and things... It wasn't easy but after the first few days I was committed to being smoke free.

it's funny that we can't type s*cked outright even when it's a completely clean use of the word

Re: Question on quiting smoking
FH & I quit cold turkey on the same day 1 1/2 yrs ago... So i'm not much help... But my dad had a really hard time quitting and tried everything. The only thing that worked for him was the nicotrol inhaler b/c of the oral fixation

its something like 1800nyquits..u can look it up online..i did it and they sent me patches...except i was never home to sign for the package but they do have a counselor who calls you to check up on you to see how you're doing, make sure you're using them right, give you tips etc...its def worth a try!

Re: Question on quiting smoking
honestly I dont know lol. Ive been smoke free for 1 year and a half and i just did it. I didnt think i would be able to do it so i was like the worst is i go back to it and try to quit agian. I did it cold turkey and just did it. Every time i would want one i would think well ive been smoke free for lets say a week, if ismoked one that whole week of all the withdrawals was for nothing. I kept thinknig that and i got through it

Re: Question on quiting smoking
Guys, please read about Chantix. That drug suppsedly causes severe depression and suicide in some people. I would be careful. Everyone is different though when it comes to quitting smoking. I quit cold turkey- it's been almost 2 years. I was a heavy smoker so for me to quit was a shocker to people that knew me. The best way to quit is to WANT to do it. If your FH doesn't fully want to, it won't work. He has to be 100% committed. Good luck- he can do it when he is all for it.
