Question on researching mortgage rates

Question on researching mortgage rates

When I call banks or places that offer mortgages, and ask what their rates are, will they tell us over the phone?

Does their rate change depending on my credit? Is every bank going ot want to know our salary/credit check? I don't want to supply that information to banks and decide not to go with them.

That is why many people use mortgage brokers. That way you give your information only once and they find you the best rate based on your credit/salary from several products (banks).
