Question on Tahiti

My FI and I decided that we want to go to Tahiti for our honeymoon. Is anyone going there on their honeymoon? If so, did you use a travel agent? Did you have to pay the travel agent? And how much should we expect to pay for a 10 days overwater bungalows on Bora Bora and Moorea? Thanks in advance!

Re: Question on Tahiti

we want to go there also. We r thinking of a cruise so there will be a lot to do, and the food is included. I heard food in Tahiti is so expensive. We were thinking the Princess cruise lines.

Re: Question on Tahiti

we are going in november. we did tons of research and ended up going with a travel agent in california that gave us the best deal. you can go for relatively cheap or you can spend a lot. we are paying around $4300 for 11 nights. we are staying 2 nights in tahiti, 5 nights in moorea (ow bungalow), 4 nights bora bora (beach bungalow). we are flying first class to los angeles (thank god for skymiles) free, then the package we bought is from lax to tahiti. yes, supposedly the food is expensive.

Re: Question on Tahiti

my hubby and I went to tahiti last year. do a search for my previous posts - they even include pictures. my advice regarding food is to get the meal plans arranged through the travel agent ahead of time. It saves you money once you are in Tahiti. We encountered MANY couples who did not realize how expensive everything was, and they had to forego taking excursions on the islands to save money for food (not my idea of a fun, romantic honeymoon). So, plan ahead - you'll be so glad you did!

Also, don't expect too many local delicacies. There's one or two 'native' dishes that the resorts serve, but the for the most part, the food is very 'americanized.' Our first dinner in Moorea was Mahi Mahi and a cheeseburger with fries. Dessert was good - creme brulee with tahitian vanilla - AMAZING! I am a total chocoholic, but anything in Tahiti that is vanilla flavored is heavenly.

We stayed at the Sheraton Moorea Resort and Spa for 5 nights (overwater bungalow), and the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort for 5 nights (also overwater bungalow). I *highly* recommend the overwater bungalows for the entire trip, but if you can only afford one island, DEFINITELY choose overwater on Bora Bora. The lagoon is the most beautifully pristine water you will ever see. I could NOT wait to get my swimsuit on and jump right in - AND, I am not a swimmer (if that tells you anything).

We booked through a travel agent in California, and we flew United Business class from NY to LAX (thank you, miles!) And then we took the Air France red-eye from LAX to Papeete. I have never been on such a tremendous plane! They serve alot of food on the Air France flight, and sweet French baguettes are plentiful on the plane, and on the islands of Tahiti! YUM!
