question questin

So... i'm a small girl right. I never really watch what i eat and am very active so i'm in pretty good shape. But i've always been a skinny girl.

I was upstairs paying for bfast and the cashier sees what i'm paying for (egg whites and cheese on ciabatta bread, juice, grapes, and a donut lol) and says, 'i don't know how you stay so skinny when you eat like that', and/or 'I wish i could be that skinny and eat whatever i want.'
I ALWAYS feel uncomfortable when someone says that to me and i respond, 'well, like everything else is has it's good and bad points' (like not being able to gain weight when i need to).

Anyone else have this type of experience lol.

People don't realize it...but telling someone they're too skinny isn't a compliment. It's the same thing as telling someone they need to gain weight. Weight is a sensitive subject for alot of people. And unforunatly, some people just don't realize when you comment on someone else's body, you might be insulting them. I know exactly how you feel.

my sister is in a similar situation. she has always been skinny & tall her whole life. she was a picky eater but what she did like she would eat a lot of.
then last year she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. its a disease where you can not eat any food that contains glutten. you would be surprised how many foods she can't eat. (including bread, pasta, breadcrumbs, etc..) when we went to try on bridesmaids dresses this women was so rude to her. saying things like, don't you think you should gain a little wait. you are too skinny. these dresses don't come in your size.

my mom got so annoyed with the women that she turned around & said, shes not this size because she wants to be, she is this size because she is sick. then the women shut up. but its so rude of people to say anything about what anyone looks like.

I have a friend who's about a 100 pounds soaking wet......she's trying to put weight on too. She's very sensitive about the topic also.

On the flip side, it's funny now when people tell me that I'm too thin, or how do I 'eat what I want and not gain weight'.......then I tell them I lost 50 pounds. The best for me is when people at WW actually ask me what I'm doing there. I was even filling in as leader for someone one day and a member was following me up the stairs and says 'You're not going to WW are you????' I responded 'Yes, I'm Laura, and I'll be your leader tonight'

Any way you cut it, weight is a sensitive issue. Some people just don't get it though.

My little cousin has this disease and is allergic to about a million other things and has to have her mom make her everything and bring it places if they go out to eat. I feel bad cuz she's only 8

Re: question questin

This is something that really bothers me. I used to be very skinny back in high school, I had a very fast metabolism. I ate whatever I wanted. People would always ask why I was so skinny, implying I had an eating disorder or something. It is something to this day that makes me upset. People think that because you are skinny they are giving you a compliment, but it is just as hurtful as calling someone overweight. I hate when people make comments like that. So yes, lol, I agree with you.

Re: question questin

i get this all the time because i lost a lot of weight this summer cuz i got sick in DR.

people (esp.. coworkers) tell me every day if they notice a change in my weight. since the summer my weight hasnt changed. yet if im wearing different jeans or something they say 'you're finally gaining weight! you look good!'

honestly i know i am not underweight and i find each and every comment annoying as h$ll !!!!!!!!!

Since I've lost weight, people at work tell me I need to start eating, they think that I starve myself and don't eat anymore and I just tell them that they wouldn't believe what I actually still eat. I agree with Colleen, no matter what weight is always an issue and comments are too

I was underweight my whole life up until law school when I gained weight..then i lost some and now I am very satisfied with my weight..but when I was in hs I was on track and cross country and ate a ton but was still really skinny and I felt so unnattractive but no matter what I could not gain weight because of my metabolism and activity level...so one day I noticed that this same upperclassmen followed me to the bathroom and the cafeteria and later found out that some girls in my class told one of the guidance counselors that I was bulemic..it was really annoying, upsetting and not true

glad i'm not the only one.

Back in the day ('when i was young i'm not a kid anymore...') i NEVER wore skirts. 1. cuz imo they just aren't comfortable and would prefer jeans and sneakers anyway and 2. cuz i hated my chicken legs lol.

Obv i've grown and evened out but they still bother me. FH has made me confident with that though so thats good lol.

Re: question questin

What makes me really mad about people implying that thin girls are anorexic or bulemic is that both of those disorders are SERIOUS mental disorders that have serious physical consequences...a good friend of mine was anorexic got osteoporosis (SP?) and almost died at 19..there is a clear difference between being skinny and anorexic

Re: question questin

yeah.. in HS when i had to go to LIJ for health clearance to play sports the doc actually implied i had a eating disorder cuz he kept asking me about my eating habits and checking my teeth for signs of it.

Then i left and ate 3 slices of pizza lol.

It amazes me how different people do the same things for different reasons.

I never wore skirts or dresses because I always thought my legs were too big. Now that I've lost my weight, I wear them more often, but still not nearly as much as some other girls. I'm happy in jeans anyday.

Omg I have to post on this topic.

My poor sister has the fastest metabolism and gets it from my mom. However, my mother is like 4'11 and my sister is 5'6 so it looks a lot more noticeable on my sister. She eats like a beast, it's almost disgusting lol and she was always put down by the way she looks, still does sometimes. I am always right there to stick up for her, it's so rude.

Now recently but like over the past 2 years I prob lost 20 pounds. I was never really heavy at all just had some weight to lose to get back to where I was. Well now that all of a sudden it is noticeable, people are really annoying about it. My future in laws will say omg are you losing weight, fh do you feel bones when u hug her, as if I have a disorder or something. Meanwhile I eat like a pig in front of them and all the time lol. I also look completely healthy, I have muscle and work out and just like feeling good. It also hits close to home bc of what happened to my sister. We're both fanatics about our teeth and always brush right after we eat. Needless to say we had to stop doing that bc people would think we'd throw up, so sad. I feel proud to show others like young girls that you can be healthy and look right by doing it in a correct way and not abusing it, and then people find a way to put you down. I confronted my fils about it on Sat, I'm like ya I did lose weight, do you really think you'd need to worry about me like that. Then they realized it so I feel better now lol

Ugh I'm glad you brought this up I've been needing to vent for awhile lol

ugh.. that's ridiculous that you guys had to stop brushing your teeth after you ate because of what other people thought. I don't understand people who can't just keep comments like that to themselves.

Seriously imagine, bc then it would brainwash my parents but my sis and I would always stick up for each other and good would prevail haha.

Aaawww.... I know it seems rude at times, but I wish I heard that more often. I am pretty small too...but my metobolism put on the brakes when I hit 28 and landed a job sitting on my butt most of the time...LOL. I am not a big girl...just can't eat the way I used too. I guess the key is to stay VERY active and portion control.
