Uhh....call me an idiot.....but how do bustles work? My dress pins up quite nicely in the back...but do I have to buy a special petticoat or whatever you call it to make it foof? I plan to get a corset, but what kind of undergarment do I need for the skirt part and does it have a puffy butt to make the bustle stick up? I honestly have no clue....

Re: Question re Bustle
You don't need to wear anything special underneath, it is the way that the bustle is created that determines how 'puffy' it is. I forget the names of the various kinds, but one kind of bustle brings everything up to your butt, creating the most puffy bustle. A Euorpean or French bustle creates pockets lower on the dress and is not puffy at all.

Re: Question re Bustle
I wish I could help you Rachel.... if I even tried to explain what I'm thinking it will just make you more confused.... BUT, I don't think the type of skirt you choose for underneath makes a difference in how puffy the bustle is... They ONLY bustle the dress up, not the puffiness underneath... if that helps...
If you say that your dress pins up nicely then I'm assuming you're talking about your bustle... the type of skirt you wear underneath is determined by how puffy you want to look....
Maybe someone else can help you better than me...

Re: Question re Bustle
My dressmaker busseled my dress since my train was non-detachtable. I wanted a non-detachtable train, lots of beadings, sleeveless but it was a gorgeous gown. However, I didn't get all the features for my dream gown which as the non-detachtable train. My dressmaker did such a good job to make it look like a bow on the back of my gown. I only wore a bridal slip to make the gown look puffy and I didn't feel hot as it pulled the gown away from my legs for some breathing room.
I think you should see a dressmaker or seamstress for busselling your gown. Busseling the gown is really small hooks to your dress so that it's easier to walk, dance, etc. manerving around easier.
