Question re: CH start time - opinions please - LONG!!!
Here goes - let's see if I can make sense....
We're getting married in Bay Shore, having our reception in Sayville... What time should we do what?
4:30p Mass, 7p CH?
The situation is this: we have a lot of guests coming from Nassau County and
a) we don't want to have too much time b/w ceremony and CH - what would the guests do? I guess I have to talk to my RH about them getting there early...
b) we don't want to miss our CH b/c of pictures (and taking pics before the mass is not an option)....
You think 4:30 is too early? Figure 1-1.5 hr for mass (receiving line time included),and 30 mins drive time from church to RH.... so guests would arrive around 615ish.... too much idle time?
well My ceremony is in west islip at 4 and at 8 in smithtown..so i don't think theres too much of a big gap..and in between my parents are having everyone over their house
well i dont know if this helps BUT my mass is at 2:30pm and my CH starts at 7:30pm - that's FIVE hours! BUT JT has a lounge where early guests can eat light foods and drink until we arrive. I want to be able to be COMPLETELY done with pictures, i dont want to miss a second of my CH! I am also going from Howard Beach to Mineola so I wanted PLENTY of time to get there ( in case of snow, lol)
I figure that the people coming to the church will probably live in the area ( my whole family, all our friends really) and any other family could get ready at another family member's house in between
honestly, i have been to weddings with big gaps in btw. and we figured out what to do with ourselves so as long as the OOT guests are taken care of i really dont care. . . . lol is that mean?
My Ceremony starts 6:30 til 7:00pm wich is the hospitality time where the guests arrive and greeted with punch and a lite snack, then 7:00-7:30 is the ceremony. it is at the RH hall.
7:30-8:30 is the cocktail hour
8:30-12:30 is the reception
I like having the ceremony start at 6:30 because it gives us all day to take pictures, i can go to so many different locations. And i dont have to wake up so early to get ready.
thanks B2B and Tilde! Almost MrsM - you're going to see each other before the ceremony? I wish I could do that, it would solve all my problems but I can't bring myself to do it.
I guess I'm with you Tilde, people will just have to fend for themselves.....
yea there is no way to do it otherwise, and i just look at as we have literally the whole entire day to spend with eachother.
I figure i will be done with getting ready by 12:00pm and then we will go to OWG, some parks, the beach, etc for 5-6 hours before the ceremony. That way i will have tons of pics. Pics are THE most important thing and i dont want to be rushed. I also want to enjoy my cocktail hour and i will join my guests immediatly following our ceremony.
i was thinking of extending my cocktail hour or reception by 30 minutes but then my wedding would end at 1:00am and im deciding if that is too late or not

Thanks girls!!!
Jenn, since I don't have a date twin yet, can we be church twins, cuz we're getting married in the same church!!!!
Anyway... LE will totally let your guests hang at the bar until the start of the ceremony. If not, then they can walk around beautiful Main St. Sayville. If memory serves, there's even a little clam bar up the road from LE. It'll take everyone about 15 mins to drive from Bay Shore to Sayville... besides, if you're set on not missing your CH and not taking pics before hand, than your guests are going to have to wait... I wouldn't worry about it.
ps... I'm so happy you decided on LE!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

lol my reception ends at 2:30 (we are having a VH AND an after hours) SO i dont think its too late but it depends on your crowd. . .we are thinking our friends will stay!
my church will be 3:30-4:00 (tentative) and the CH starts at 7... but it will take us a good hour to get from the church to the RH.. so they will have 2 hours but i want all the pics done and out of the way before CH... were assuming alot of the guests will be staying at the hotel so it gives them time to get there and check in before hand as well. and well people are prepaird they know how weddings run.. im not owrried... if FH doesnt mind we may have the church from 4-430 and take some pics before.. i dont mind seeing each other before i think it actually makes it less stressfull and emotion walking down the asile (since im a huge ball of emotions and will ballig my eyes out)

Wow really? 2:30am i thought 12:30am was late. appox how long is your reception? Ours is 4 hours for the reception, 1 hour for cocktail hour, and 1 hour for the ceremony. All in the same place. So the RH told me i can extend if i want. for a price lol.

ok my church is 2:30 CH is 7:30 Reception is 8:30 VH is 12:30 After hours is 1:30
we may cut out the after hours depending on our budget and if things are looking REALLY bad we may cut out the VH lol but so far this is the plan!

we dont have the money for the VH.. but if we want the extra hours we dont have to decide anytime soon we have till durring the wedding if were having a good time and dont want to go home.. we can hand them the money right on the spot and stay an extra hour... i dont think its necessary.. well just party at the hotel!!..lol

thanks! well we have to decide - we can go back into the CH room or the hospitality lounge and have a 'Jazz lounge' with piped in music from the DJ - very relaxing with couches and stuff. . .
BUT i think our friends would still want to dance so we may stay in the same room. . . hand out 'bar' foods like buffalo wings, fries, potato skins - on trays and just continue the party. . .
I think I have the largest gap of everyone so far:
Mass: 3:00
Cocktail: 8-9
Reception: 9-1
I have about 4 hours between mass and CH but that's is the only way we could work it cause someone was already booked at Fox Hollow so we couldn't start any earlier and our church won't do a mass any later than 3:00 because they have a 5:00 mass on Saturday afternoon and confessions at 4:30.
Definitely check with your church to see what time they will allow you to have your ceremony cause that may change things!
If there is a large gap in between don't worry, just like tilde and the other girls said, the guests will find something to do with themselves.
p.s. - my church is in Howard Beach and my hall is in Woodbury which is about a 45 minute drive and most of my guests will be coming from the neighborhood or Nassau. As mean as it may sound they are just going to have to find something to do because both parents are *hopefully* coming with us to Old Westbury Gardens for pictures after the church. HTH!
Honestly, we went to a wedding in staten island (and we live WAY EAST on long island) and in between the church and the cocktail hour we had about 2 hours to kill...honestly we were adults and kept ourselves busy....sometimes it ***** but its your day and plan it for you...of course you want to try to be courteous to your guests but there is only so much you can do....if you need the extra hour to take pictures, take them, because you only get that chance in your life once!!!!
I will probably have a 1 or 2 o'clock ceremony with a 7 o'clock CH for the reason that we want to enjoy our day dont want to be rushed (and i'm not sure how much driving time we will have yet)....i may set up some sort of you can go here in between with lil snacks, but we'll see what happens. I talked to my mom about this (especially since i have a lot of OOT guests) and her thoughts were they can always head back to the hotel (i might do a shuttle depending), we can set something up at our house or at FH's parents house or even his granny's depending on the church we chose. She also pointed out that as much as you plan not to be rushed (i also dont want to see FH before the ceremony) you will be, just because its the nature of the day. So do what you want, and everyone will figure it out. Sayville is an adorable town and there is plenty of places to walk around if they want to. And I'm done now that I've babbled on enough.
