Question re: prenatal vitamins

First...NO we are not TTC now and will not be for a couple of years.
Some background first.....I'm currently on BCP. When I went to my dermatologist last week he mentioned that the BCP might be the reason why my hair is thin. I ordered the book TCOYF and will most likely get off the pill after the wedding.
Today i decided to ask my gyno to prescribe pre natal vitamins since I've heard and read here that they're awesome for hair, nails and skin. She said fine. But my insurance doesn't cover them But I'm willing to pay for them (at least for a few months) to see if they'll make my hair, nails, and skin more healthy.
My question is how long did it take you to see the results of the pre natal vitamins (w/respect to hair, nails, skin)?

Thanks

ETA: Sorry so long

Re: Question re: prenatal vitamins

I've been using the $8-$10 bottle of 100 vitamins from either CVS or Eckerd (they're comparable to the Rx Stuart Duet) for a little over a year now. Don't remember how soon the effect started to kick in, but I remember my nails and hair growing like wildfire. Probably not too long!

Thanks girls! The pharmicist mentioned I could buy over the counter vitamins. But the dosage of medicine in the vitamins the doc prescribed is higher then the dosage in the over the counter vitamins. I'd rather try the higher dosage.

Re: Question re: prenatal vitamins

I take prescribed PreNate GT, however my insurance pays for it. I believe it would normally be over $30 (not positive). I started taking them when I got pregnant. The Dr. prescribed another brand for when I was TTC. Those I saw more of a growth than the PreNate GT. (Sorry can't remember the name of the other brand). Remember every person's body reacts diffrently to the vitamins. Before all this I was taking Ultra Mega for woman and those are extremely powerful, actually too powerful to take while pregnant per my doctor. Go figure

I think I noticed a difference in a couple of months. My hair definately appears to grow faster and looks healthier. My nails got a little stronger but will never be the best.

I think the only thing stronger in the rx is folic acid. If you take an over the counter multi-vit or prenatal vit in addition to folic acid you will surpass any prescription. I think I read only 600 mg folic acid is needed per day. My rx has 1000. I get the generic brand of the prenatal prescribed for me and it only costs about $3. Maybe your insurance will cover that.

Re: Question re: prenatal vitamins

I am on Precept , I have been on it since the end of November. My hair, nails and skin look great. My doc told me it was never to early to start on these vitamins, especially since it is good to have the vitamins in your body if u conceive and are not trying to. I saw results within a month. My ins. does not cover them either, I pay about 45.00 for a 3 month supply.
